"We had planned an evening with very good friends. The Grand Cafe was recommended and the bonus was on the Key West Women's Group menu. To keep things short, our waiter Carl was obviously not excited to work on this evening. I even tried to break the ice with him by asking him his name and trying to ask a little about how he was in Key West. He had no other conversation than taking our order. Our party ordered an 8 ounce fillet (definitely not 8 ounces, but it was tasty), the entire roasted snapper (tasty), the branzino (there was a kind of green goozey liquid under the fish that was less than to cheat, but the upper half of the fish was light and tasteful), the fourth person ordered the scallops. For $40, three scallops on rice seemed too expensive. There was also confusion on the women's card. Half price Happy Hour and the card could not be used together, so we beat two bills, one for Happy Hour and one for dinner, so we could both use. Carl felt that this required a little, he said he would see what he could do and would have to discuss with his manager. He allowed the discount for both, but he did this with a demon of extreme annoyance. Customer service is important to EXTREMELY. We felt we were a burden for Carl. As a restaurant owner / manager of 4 stand alone, unique concept restaurants in a high tourist area in the Middle West, I was embarrassed for Grand Cafe. We didn't share it with the administration this night. Instead we will probably choose not to return to the Grand Cafe in the future (we live here 1/2 year)."

"Very friendly staff and the seafood are fresh. fried calamari is delicious. I had a pasta dish with fresh fish that was cooked with capern, vinegar, lemon! this was much too sour and dipped with too many acids and nothing to really compensate the plate. the weeping list was not great. but on the other side the other plates that my family ordered were better balanced and quite good. this is a solid restaurant, nothing special but solid"
