"My wife and I chose to eat here because we fancied a steak and the steak reviews were particularly good. Justifiably! Our sirloins were excellent, as good as we have had in many years. We also shared a very acceptable bottle of Australian Malbec, though that brings me to my first issue. We hadn't planned to have a full bottle, rather to have a pre-prandial drink (a beer for me and a small white wine for my wife) before having a glass of red each with our steaks. Unfortunately, there was no beer. Lots of gassy lager but no cask beer. We were told that they had run out earlier and were awaiting new supplies. What kind of pub doesn't have a replacement Firkin in their cellar? I then asked for French mustard with my steak an absolute standard only to be told that they only had English. I chose a garlic Hollandaise instead which worked quite well but isn't the same. The chips best described as French skins looked most unappetising but tasted OK and watercress would have been much better than pea-shoots as a garnish. Service was good. Overall, therefore, far from a disaster but not to be repeated in a hurry."
