"The Auberge de la Forêt was a real lucky find. The location is superb, it's off the beaten track nestled in the forest between the forest of old oak chestnut trees. The offering is typically French from the Vendee region. There are a number of formulas on offer ranging from €17.50 to 22.00 depending on what you choose. We sat outside and listened to the nostalgic playlist whilst we dined. Excellent Efficient service, just a pity we discovered this auberge at the end of our trip, if we had more time we would definitely return. They have relaxing chairs under the trees where you can relax with a drink after a walk in the forest."

"Honestly the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. I am British born and have had my fair share of Fish and Chips over the years. Nothing beats the La Vendée Chippy. Crispy light golden batter, chips to die for. Simply amazing"

"On the board outside this place advertises "pizzas and burgers" but it does a bit more than that. I fancied a salad but I have to say not with chicken gizzards (which appear to be a local obsession), or goats cheese - the only two on offer. I went for the meat dish of the day which was a tasty and pretty good small steak (skirt I think) for €10. Everyone else ate pizzas or burgers and seemed happy. Steer clear of the local wine though - not great."

"The choice of black wheat specialty pancakes has been considerably limited: only 5 of them, 2 of them salmon and 1 to the surimi. The "brigand sing" wheat pancake is always as good. the marquise (chocolat - orange squirrels (many) - large marnier) could be improved"
