"I’m not a cooking type of person and I was trying to tell my daughter what exactly soul food was. I told her 'soul ' was a word used to describe Black culture and nothing beats soul food for heartiness, comfort, and flavor. So I told her I know a place not too far from the house. When she tried the fried whiting, fried chicken, smothered chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, mac and cheese, string beans, cabbage, and chocolate cake she was like I never had a buffet with so many GOOD and correctly seasoned options. I laughed at that point I knew she was impressed. She never eats all her food. The sweet tea was so good. She said it felt like it was thanksgiving. Everything was so good and the temperature of the food and amount of seasoning used was perfect. I told her many of the recipes passed down through generations just to make the “soul food” topic stick in her head forever... lol Thank you to Carleen for having an establishment that was family friendly, clean, and minimal wait time for the food line. The portions of food are worth the money. I recommend trying this restaurant."

"During the pass, we were looking for a good grill place. this had no reviews, but the other location had Rave reviews. So we decided to try. it was all that the other reviews have said about the other place - eating was amazing, the staff and the service were wonderful, and eating quickly came out. I had the brisket on a sandwich with slaw, amazing. the options for the sauce were great and fulfill the needs of the various grill fans (sweet, spicy, vinegary.) the jalapeño mac and the cheese were good (I don't think the mac and the cheese was much too nice to write, was not especially great or bad, but the jalapeño was nice in it."

"As the Gay Socialite, I can not visit a city and not check out the local nightlife. Before my niece and her wife suggested Barcode I had already seen their page on social media and thought I would pass. Glad I didn’t! Although it’s not much to look at, it has heart and soul. The bartender was a sweetie, the locals were so friendly and I met a few other people visiting Richmond for the weekend. The drinks were delicious and easy on the Amex. I say go for cocktails and conversation. Xoxo Lorenzo"

"I initially went in right before lunch ended for the lunch special for $5.99. The posted sign said lunch special from 11am-3pm. Meat, 2 sides and a roll. The time was 12:41. After placing my order with my card I was given a receipt to sign. It had the total I owed the restaurant and another amount for .29. I asked grandma what was this twenty-nine cents charge and she explained that's how much they charge to use cards. So I asked what was the total for the meal and she said I had to add it up then sign the receipt. The total came to $8.15. I was confused because the posted sign says $5.99 so why am I paying over $8. Grandma proceeds to tell me that the price is $6.99 and not $5.99. I told her that was false advertising. She assured me that she was going to take it down. After getting my food the chicken had no taste and the fries where soaked in grease. I wouldn't recommend this place. There's no coming back from this"
