"A St Andrews staple. When friends or family ask me for recommendations in St Andrews, Balgove Larder is always at the top of my list! First of all, it is quite literally 'farm to table '. The indoor restaurant/cafe and steak barn look onto sheep and cows. The steak barn is infamous for their delicious burgers and truffle fries. I don 't think they have a full bar, but they do serve beer, wine and bottled Eden Mill cocktails. They do a lovely cheese board that is a great starter for the table. What makes Balgove Larder incredibly special is the fact that everything is locally sourced from all over Scotland. They have an adorable shop where you can buy cheeses, meats, jams, soaps and so much more. I could go on and on about what this place has to offer, but words just don 't do it justice. Here are some of my tips for a perfect day at Balgove: 1. If possible, choose a sunny day to go for the best experience. 2. Once again if the weather permits, do not take a taxi there! Instead enjoy a lovely walk along the golf course. I believe it is about 15 minutes from North street. 3. Make sure the steak barn is open, I know their hours can be a bit iffy sometimes. 4. If you plan on exploring the grounds do not wear shoes you value! It can be pretty muddy. Enjoy your visit!"

"We recently had dinner here as part of a larger group. I give kudo's to the manager for finding a way to squeeze in our group, as the place was fairly full and all the open tables were suitable only for 2-3 people. And the atmosphere is nice and casual, very easy place to relax. And no surprise a very golfer vibe to the place. Service was also good, not great, but what one would expect. The food was a letdown. Except for the fish and chips, no one else in our party found their meals to be very good. I had the curry, which was really bland and a very small portion. A couple others had burgers and sandwiches which were very average. The most disappointing part is that the burgers/sandwiches came with flimsy American-style french fries, while the fish and chips came with proper looking UK chips. Every other pub I've been to in UK serves real chips with their burgers and sandwiches. If all you want is a place to unwind with a drink after a day on the links, then this place is A-Ok. But recommend dining elsewhere."
