"We stayed here for 3 nights to break our journey home from Scotland and it was a lovely change from the motorway chain motels. This is a lovely old pub with rooms both in the main building and in the adjoining buildings at the rear. We stayed in the main building which was fine bearing in mind that this is an old building and to adapt it to the modern requirements of todays guests means compromise, in order to make use of available space . we were more than happy with our room and its facilities, but bear in mind rooms 1 to 6 are up two flights of stairs if you are less able. Pub serves food from a very good menu if you want to dine in the evening and breakfast was excellent with any variation on a full English available as well as cereal, fruit ,yogs, juices and the like. We received a warm welcome and the host was very friendly and only to happy to engage with you if you wanted without being intrusive. The pub is only just of the motorway but could be a million miles away, in a nice quiet village with a brilliant bus service north to Kendall and beyond and south to Lancaster, so we parked the car up and took advantage of the excellent service. All in all a great base to tour the area or for a stopover en route north or south and have no hesitation in recommending."

"We booked dinner to celebrate our friends anniversary and were not disappointed . The three course dinner was excellent. The food was beautifully presented, expertly cooked and delicious. The cheese platter was thoughtfully put together with tasting notes and with the mildest cheese first and the strongest last so as not to distort the palate. Sarah the front of house manager was friendly , professional and extremely knowledgeable. She knew her products and was able to recommend beer based on our husbands tastes and was happy to explain how the delicious whipped butter is made which is served with the bread rolls. All the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and professional. We were lucky enough to be able to moor up on the hotels jetty and were able to enjoy breakfast in the hotel to celebrate our friends birthday the following day. Again the food was excellent and everyone went out of their way to make our friends birthday special. Thank you Andy (General Manager) and Sarah,looking forward to returning soon."

"Arrived for lunch after walking from Windermere, warm welcome, open fire and fantastic menu. Lunch two course menu was great value. Choices from the main list also superb. Best fruit crumble ever, with hot custard on the side. Looking forward to returning to try their evening specials. Curry night looks good"

"My husband and I visited whilst we were in Grasmere and we had the most delicious ice creams! I asked if there was a vegan ice cream and I was told there was a passion fruit one and I had that in a tub. Well, it was the most delicious ice cream I have ever tasted, full of flavour and you would never know it was vegan! My husband had a strawberry ice cream in a very tasty biscuit type cone which he said was also delicious. I only wish the manufacturer of the ice creams (Kimi's) had a shop near where I live as it only seems to be in the Lake district."

"The Restaurant isn't operating at this hotel. Its not the fault of the staff who are obviously trying their best to provide friendly service despite the decisions of whoever is in charge. The restaurant is only used as a breakfast room for residents and as a private dining room for coach parties. Residents are not permitted to dine in the restaurant, instead they are redirected to the bar. On most days the restaurant is locked up. And people booking the restaurant are instead seated in the bar. The bar has all the atmosphere of a community hall. The food is ok, a decent enough bar/pub menu and decent quality. But a restaurant it isn't."

"Costa is normally a good standard. We had a late lunch the place was a mess. The staff were very disorganised, we were eating in but I was given our cakes in a paper bag our toasties in a cartoon. The cholocate strawberry frappes were nothing like the ones I get from my local Costa, very disappointing."

"Visited for my daughters birthday, on a hot June day. Greeted by a very friendly lady who gave us the option of a table indoors or outdoors, and we choose to sit outside. The menu was full of really interesting choices. As a vegetarian, I was happy to see some good options, and I chose a Coronation Chickpea sandwich, which was delicious. The other members of my party had Cumberland sausage sandwiches, and a prawn sandwich. All were served with hot cherry tomatoes and vegetable crisps, and were declared delicious. We didn't have cake as we were all fully satisfied by our sandwiches, but the available options looked fresh and delicious. All the staff were really friendly, and I will definitely be going back again."
