"Recently my hubby and I were in St. John's for a mini vacation staying at the Holiday Inn Portugal Cove Road, East Side Marios is attached to this hotel. After a long drive we decided to stay in for dinner, it was our first mistake....First it took an inordinate amount of time for the wait staff to acknowledge us and be seated, the restaurant was not full. Upon seating us we we're informed that there was no bread, soup or salad. I asked if we the cost of our meals would be reduced and I told no with a giggle. The menu states specific meals come with soup or salad and bread. Needless to say we we're incredibly disappointed. Additionally the service was slow and the wait staff was obviously overwhelmed and tired. The next morning we went for breakfast as we prepaid for our breakfasts when booking our room. We stood at the front for nearly 10 minutes before the wait staff seated us only to be told that there was no bread so toast wouldn't be provided but we could substitute with an English muffin or pancakes. I'm sitting there thinking there's a grocery store just up the road, really no one could go pick up a loaf of bread. I know things have changed because of COVID but poor service and blase attitudes are just not acceptable."

"I've been to Granite twice for dinner in the last month and both occasions were very enjoyable. The dining room has an upscale casual feel to it. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed but they obviously want to offer a good meal and a memorable experience.The menu has a selection of pub-style appetizers (nachos, onion rings, etc.) but they are done with little extras, like panko crumbs for a lighter coating on the onion rings and the nachos come with shredded chicken and a bbq sauce. But the appetizer selection also includes a nice garden salad and a great scallop dish.The main courses include pastas, fish and chips, a burger and a salmon dish. I haven't tried the burger but all the ones served to people at other tables certainly looked like a meal worth ordering.Having been there on two occasions and having sampled the scallops, the garden salad, the nachos,the onion rings, the salmon and the blackened chicken alfredo, I can say that I found everything tasty and nicely presented and the portion sizes were all ample.Of course, the view of St. John's Harbour adds to the experience. And each server I had there was very friendly. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good meal in a relaxed setting."
