"This is from my time in Dunedin and using zomato but due to death of zomato wanted to put this review somewhere. Hope Sampan house is still serving the goods. Update 12/7/19 ordered the red roasted pork belly and am I so glad it comes with a bowl of rice, and the portion for the price is pretty generous and very similar to the special rice dish of mao 's braised pork belly that chopsticks have. Taste wise a sweet sauce but nothing spectacular, tasty, but I would 've liked more sauce. The meat was tender but slightly more bouncy and firm, and could 've done with more flavour. Compared to the chopsticks mao pork belly, definitely less oily with a more 'clean ' feeling, but is more chewy with thicker cut pork chunks. Both are very good and of the same value, so depending on your mood, either is a good choice. 4/5 Update 7/7/19 ordered the Sichuan spicy double cooked pork belly, a very decent portion for price with a good portion of meat and veg cooked with authentic flavour! Fantastic pork belly slices and they didn 't slump out on portion of meat, and there was decent veg with a good bit of fungi, carrot, cabbage and onion. Rice is also included in the meal which is a bonus. Happy with the quality, definitely comparable to chopsticks! 4/5 My friends ordered the ginger beef which was a generous portion and tasty, and and two crispy ducks. Everyone was very happy with their meal and everything came with a portion of rice. Dined in and ordered a medium beef supreme satay. Flavor was sweet yet. It overpowering but lacked in savory taste-however I was warned beforehand by the friendly staff there that this was a sweet dish. The peanut flavor was present and mixed well with the sweet flavor, the beef was cooked well, tender but still chewy. Portion was decent for the price. 3.5/5 just because I wasn 't blown away but makes a good quick eat out meal. Definitely keen to check them out again and try more of their menu!"

"Great casual artsy atmosphere at this cozy restaurant. Food was amazing, these guys know how to fry the perfect flavour into anything coming to your table. I particularly recommend anything with the buttermilk chicken, very juicy inside but perfectly crisp coating. Prompt service was also great. portion sizes aren't huge but the cost does reflect this with a relatively inexpensive and easily navigable selection of food made with high quality ingredients. (Picture attached is the chicken burger)"

"Wonderful customer service, waitresses were lovely! Got to sit in an exclusive reserved area as a booking had just been cancelled so we were super stoked! The ambience was lovely and relatively calm also here despite they were extremely busy! Was also stoked with their cabinet, the choices looked very extensive and they had some raw pieces to choose from too!<br/ <br/ Mermaid latte-definitely something different and cute which I had to get due to the name. Super creamy which I enjoyed and quite a spicy hit, reminiscent of chai. If you’re a coffee/chai drinker, this one could be for you. 4/5<br/ Cappuccino-extremely frothy and well done! 4.5/5<br/ <br/ Starfish stack-looked beautiful, wasn’t my meal but the feedback was good!<br/ <br/ Original gangster burgers<br/ Burger buns were well done with a little crisp, the patty was soft and not tough and a decent thick patty!!! The thickest beef patty I’ve seen, definitely made from scratch and was very content with it. It was a mince patty and not steak which was different-see if that’s your thing. I liked it, but my friend (experienced with burger prefers something more juicy and not a huge fan of the mince patty. The egg was a nice addition and overall was a pleasant giant burger. 4/5<br/ <br/ Sides of fries, salmon, sausage<br/ Salmon was smoked very lightly and was tender and the sausage looked quite gourmet, was smoked to a mild flavor and had a crisp skin, tasty. Fries was a very generous portion but not crispy but still tasty. 4/5<br/ <br/ Soup of the day with ciabatta; orange carrot and tumeric<br/ Soup was really tasty! A very lovely balanced creamy blend and all the elements really worked the bread was also super fresh! 4/5<br/ <br/ Seafood chowder with grain bread (able to switch out ciabatta <br/ Really tasty chowder wow! Creamy with the right amount of savory-ness yum! The seafood flavor was fresh and not pungent, and the mussels chewy and tender. 4.5/5<br/ <br/ From their cabinet I thought I’d splurge and chose the ginger crunch and raw pineapple mint slice! -to be updated! <br/ Super happy with the ginger crunch-the part bade was delicious in texture and gritty whilst very well proportionally matches with a sweet but not sickly ginger icing. Yuuuuum 4/5<br/ The pineapple slice was definitely different. I liked the element of piebeapple and enjoyed the slightly (apricot-y? base but wasn’t a huge fan of the coconut cream which overpowered the tropical direction I thought this was heading for. 3/5<br/ <br/ Portion sizes were very generous and we had a lovely hearty brunch. Would recommend!"

"Went for a meal with a group of 8. The meals were beautiful. I had the blue cod, yum. For dessert I shared a cream Brule with homemade ginger biscuits to which we added a side of icecream. Staff were friendly and helpful. We sat at a high table which worked out OK. Would recommend early booking if you want seated at a low table."

"We had dinner here found some nice vegan options on the 'All day ' 'Evening ' menus.(Anything marked 'V ' .A lively cafe with entertainment most nights (Poets, musicians, etc .Good food at moderate prices. We had 4 x dishes....all tasty great! The Beer-battered cauliflower aioli was a favourite! Yum!A selection of changing cabinet desserts is also offered."

"Truly started my day with magic here this morning! Wonderful friendly and Uber helpful kitchen staff and the most amazing pesto avocado pastry that the chef had specially made that morning DIVINE! "My go to place for healthy and good quality Asian food. I've been frequenting this place for a good many years now,it being so close to the University.<br/>They serve a wide range of yummy delights, with gluten free and vegan options available.<br/>My favourites have always been the chive crepes with the family's locally grown salad, the vege rolls with beef or chicken, the stewed pork belly noodle soup, homemade dumplings, all topped with a good dose of hot chilli sauce.<br/>It can get quite crowded around the lunch hour and popular amongst students and lecturers alike.<br/>Formosa Delight is owned and run by a sweet Taiwanese couple that grow all their own vegetables so the salads are always amazingly fresh and crunchy. The service is good and you'll always get a smile.<br/>Prices are good too."
