"This pigeon with foie gras, chanterelles and a sauce made from the hearts was the best pigeon I’ve had in my life! And this restaurant, L’Assiette, has become a favorite and one I will always return to. It’s the best example of classic French cooking...in my opinion. Cozy unassuming place, but they do everything well and are very nice. The menu is short with a couple modern dishes, but mostly classics done perfectly. I could go on about the cassoulet and charcuterie board with blood sausage and tripe terrine in addition to big pieces of delicious lardons! After the sommelier realized we were not stupid Americans, and helped me pick the perfect Burgundy, he discussed the lighter more elegant styles of the new French winemakers, all in French. I only understood about half of it, but got the gist. Then he poured me a delicious dessert wine from the Jurancon which I’d never heard of. Super fun! And all delicious! I highly recommend.
