"Unfortunately, I cant rate the food.. drink.. or service at Barberstown Castle. We arrived hoping to sit for coffee and cake at their tea rooms this afternoon. We walked into the near empty room, except one other table, and were promptly greeted at the door by an extremely apologetic waitress to tell us we couldnt sit as there are no children permitted in the tea rooms. We were all extremely shocked and appalled. We were a group of 4.. mother, 2 adult daughters and a 12 year old daughter. We continued to question the bizarre logic of this seemingly 'new ' hotel policy and were told there was nothing that could be done and the manager/ owner was on the premises and if he saw us, 3 adults and a child, sitting in the tea room the waitress would receive the backlash. To be fair, she was very apologetic and we cant put any of the blame on her or any of the staff present at the time. It was extremely disappointing, especially as local people of the area to take our business elsewhere. Not only were we there to enjoy a relaxing afternoon, we were also there to suss the place out for a forthcoming family wedding... and this establishment certainly isnt in the running now. I would appreciate a direct reply from the manager/ owner/ boss in question in order to explain this obscure policy that saw paying customers turned away on a quiet Monday afternoon. All I can say is, if you cut off a huge section of the market that is families.. you 're business will fail in due course."
