"After five attempts to get there within opening hours this place had a lot to live up to and: it exceeded expectations! It was a big surprise to find a café of such quality, style and philosophy in Lavington. The artworks, the literature spread around to read and the handcrafted benches and tables all added to the experience. From the outside Lemonhead looks like a small little den but it's actually long and spacious albeit a bit devoid of natural light as you move away from the window and entry door. But the colourful pictures on the walls, electric lights and the smiles of friendly staff compensate by brightening up the whole place.Apart from the interior and people working there we also like the philosophy that’s part of this café. Lemonhead makes everything they sell from scratch and are using at least in parts free range and organic ingredients. The owner Allanna also seems to source food as locally as possible in an effort to reduce food miles and limit the café’s environmental footprint.Their takeaway containers and cups are fully compostable and will readily break down leaving no residue; they also strive to follow a no-waste policy. Finally: they say that they’re always in search of the best seasonal, free-range and sustainable local produce. So, anyone: if you have bountiful excess of anything, Lemonhead would love to hear about it.Now to the food. Lemonhead offers healthy sounding breakfasts and lunches, including seemingly invigorating juices and smoothies, smooth coffee and a great range of Tasmanian teas. There's quite a lot of choice for vegetarians and the few fish and meat dishes seem to meet the café’s healthy-living standards. We had salmon on toasted open sandwich with rocket and lemon aeoli as well as pan fried gnocchi with Walnuts, pumpkin and caramelised onion; both dishes were absolutely delicious. For desert we ordered gluten-free plum cake which got served with a dash of what seemed vanilla yoghurt; it too was yummy. Finally: I like my latté (Honeybird, artisan roasters from the alpine region in Victoria). So, all in all were were very happy. Well done, Allanna and staff. Lemonhead will become one of our regular haunts when we're in the area."
