"I decided to stop by after seeing this place earned #61 on Yelp's nationwide Top 100 Burgers list and was conveniently nearby. Before walking in: parking. This one was tough. Very small lot and only one street parking spot. Had to wait on someone to come out to snag a spot so not the easiest parking situation. So be forewarned. Walking in, there was a really nice ambiance! I came solo, so grabbed a seat at the bar. I came with a mission: the burger. While waiting, had a cocktail and a beer. Bartender was super friendly and gave a lot of good recommendations about neighborhood spots. Great conversation. The burger. I was initially a little disappointed that it didn't come with fries. But my disappointment quickly evaporated after I took a bite of the burger. Sooooo good. Easily the best I've had in a while. Simple, but executed really well. While waiting, saw the cornbread pudding go by to another diner--definitely on my list for next visit. Also looking forward to trying some of their other dishes. After the burger, I feel it can only get better!"

"Great food and amazing wine! We love coming by for a glass of wine and a bite to eat. Burger is great and the “cheap date” is a fun quick bite. The space is small so it can be difficult to get a table with a large group. Would definitely recommend calling ahead for a reservation to avoid a long wait. Parking: Small free lot adjacent to the building. If full, parking is available on the street in the surrounding area. Kid-friendliness: I have seen children here before but I wouldn’t label this as a kid friendly restaurant. Many seats are at a bar and the atmosphere gives more “date night” than family fun. Wheelchair accessibility: I’m not sure if there is a lift but there is a large flight of stairs into the building. I would call ahead to confirm accessibility. "My wife and I were visiting Norfolk and we selected the Monastery from all the available restaurants on Granby. We had no reservation, but a nice table was available so we were quickly seated. John was our waiter, serving at least 2 other large parties. He handled it very well. He was prompt, professional and knowledgeable about the menu selections. He brought our drinks and bread with cheese…a welcome start to our dinner. My wife chose the veal while I decided to try the cassoulet. Both were delicious, full of flavor and well presented. It had been several years since our last visit; the Monastery excelled both times. It’s refreshing to experience a restaurant that is consistently good with a nicely varied menu and with attentive, friendly service. We will be back!"
