"My wife and I visited the town of Cardeto and “Il Tipico Calabrese” in August 2016 while on vacation. We could have not had a more memorable experience. From the moment we arrived, Marcello exhibited genuine kindness and enthusiasm for the rich history of the region, which becomes even more obvious upon seeing his quaint, beautiful museum/restaurant adorned with traditional tools and artifacts along with pictures and emotional notes from visitors. We spent a long and amazing evening with Marcello and his loving family that included a variety of fruits and vegetables from his garden, as well as homemade cheeses, cured meats, pasta and pig accompanied by local wine and topped off with dessert and espresso. Everything was fresh, delicious and authentic with my personal favorite being the salami, which Marcello noted with pride contains no artificial ingredients and takes over one year to prepare. As I wrote in the note that now hangs on the walls of restaurant, I could think of no better way to spend time in the town of my ancestors."
