"Amazing location on the river bank. they have to go in summer to get the full advantage of the view and exterior seating area. the ambiente and the mood were simply perfect .. very cozy at an icy cold evening! our waitress was so attentive and friendly, gave advice on what to choose from the menu and she also gave recommendations to our wine choice. eating was delicious and the right amount of the portion. I can highly recommend the cod and the desserts were amazing!"

"Absolutely loved this quiet little tea house just around the corner from the Minister just up from the main shops; an ideal location. Most options were vegan on the mains menu, nearly all drinks could be made vegan most of the cakes on the daily cakes board were also vegan...so many options it was hard to choose! I got the tofu teriyaki mayo donburi bowl (with miso soup of course! which was super tasty a really good size portion, then I couldn't resist a vegan matcha blondie, which was yummy, although I think you'd have to be a bit of a matcha addict like me to appreciate it. Will definitely be going again. Edit (04/02/22 Was super excited to hear they were doing a Veganuary 3 course set menu it did not disappoint! For a very fair £20, we had the most delicious traditional Japanese food unlike anything else I've ever tasted. For mains I had the Umami spaghetti; was better than any Italian pasta I've ever had! And for dessert the matcha zenzai, which was so bizarre to me, but really nice (though as in my previous review, I'm just a teeny bit biased towards matcha things! Would definitely recommend actually they're running the Veganuary menu into March so still plenty of time to try it! Updated from previous review on 2021-12-09"

"Was very surprised to see the bad reviews. I and my partner had a nice experience, we ate in the restaurant and found the staff very attentive and polite to be. eating was very cheap and quick. I had the mock duck in black bean and my partner agreed that it was one of the best black bean bowls we had. portions were not massive, but were reasonable and made us space for a green teacake that was beautiful."

"The pizza here was so delicious, I wasn't sure what I wanted to get at first and I'm not sure what I did order but it was so good! I also really enjoyed the music they had playing, it was such a good vibe! I went as it was reccomended to me but I'd definitely advise other people go if you're looking for a quick bite to eat in the city centre!"

"Yes, it's ridiculously expensive. If you just want a quick cup of coffee, there are many other coffee shops in York that will sort you out. However, if you want a long, leisurely cup of tea with the traditional sandwiches (crusts cut off, of course) and cakes, then Bettys is the place for you! I went for afternoon tea with a large group of friends, and it was the perfect place. We put on our pretty dresses, and very much enjoyed the whole experience. The food was wonderful I had open-topped sandwiches that had considerably more filling than bread, the scones were fresh and came with plenty of jam and clotted cream, and delicious cakes which included a really yummy raspberry tart. We sat upstairs which was really light and airy, and we didn't feel like we were in a goldfish bowl at all. Someone was playing the piano at the end of the room, it took us a little while before we realised that they were playing Disney songs and songs from musicals! It made us smile, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience"
