"We don't drive by Vaso's Kitchen on Powatan often. But with their recent outside renovation, we noticed the restaurant and decided to check it out. The owners of Vaso's Kitchen also own Vaso's Mediterranean Bistro and Taverna Kretekou, both of which are on King Street in Old Town. The restaurant is nestled in a really nice neighborhood, east of US 1 and West of Washington Street. It is clearly part of this neighborhood as several of the patrons walked from their home to eat dinner here. The ambiance of Vaso's Kitchen is absolutely first rate. Their other restaurants feel like you're eating homestyle, but eating here you really feel like you're at home. The staff are wonderful, friendly and helpful. The entire experience was comfortably paced. Food is served reasonably promptly, but it is also relaxed. That's why it felt like home to me. There are several outside seating areas, one between the restaurant proper and the Powatan Street. The other area is on the side of the building under a tent. We chose to sit out front and it was much nicer in my opinion. There is a small but adequate selection of wines and beer. I chose the Greek beer which was a lager. It was light and flavorful, not too filling. My wife had the Pinot Noir that she enjoyed. This is a Greek restaurant in contrast to the Bistro. Bread is served with olive oil. The oil is great; the bread, not so much. We chose the Artichoke Florentina. It is a full artichoke served with a garlic paste and sitting in herb flavored olive oil. If you like artichoke, it is a very interesting presentation. We also ordered the Greek sampler. This was a nice variety of appetizers, some of which were really good-great pita bread, spreads, very good stuffed grape leaves, fresh tomatoes, nice spicy pepperoncini. There was a lamb ball (we first thought it was a felafel) that was disappointing. Our entree was the Branzini. It was truly delicious. At $42 the price was a bit high, but the fish was good. We also shared the Greek salad. Greek salads are not the most interesting dishes in the world, but this was a bit boring in my opinion. We didn't have coffee, tea or dessert so I can't comment on those. This is a great restaurant to come with family and friends. It's a come as you are kind of place where you can find a lot of nice food in a wonderful atmosphere."

"Charming, delicious, and authentic. Had my wife's birthday meal here, and we had an excellent time. The array of Greek dishes here is excellent, all with their own flare. We had the lamb and salmon specials, which came out excellent. The menu is full of great warm and cold mezes, along with great entrees. The service is friendly, attentive, and helpful. The back patio area is extremely enjoyable for outside dining, staying cool in heat and dry in rain. We had a great time,"

"Half way through my second beer, I was asked to leave. The only explanation given was that there were complaints. I asked what the complaints were. I got no response. So I asked who made the complaints. And the lady pushed my bill towards me and asked me to leave. Then she turned and walked away. I found this quite curious, as I had spoken to no one but the bartender. I used no foul language. No inappropriate subject matter. And didn’t interact with anyone. As I looked around, I realized that I was the only black customer. So perhaps it was the color of my skin that offended. Either way, management needs a lesson on customer relations and conflict resolution. So the owner of the establishment replied and used the word “Disruptive”. Let’s define that word. Because I spoke to know one in the bar except the bartender. And I took a phone call. Exactly how can I be descriptive, sitting by myself? And even if that were the case, why had no one thought to come over a kindly ask me to take it back a notch?? And thirdly, sending a brown staff member to remove me doesn’t mean it wasn’t racially motivated. If I were a white man, would I have been asked to leave so abruptly? Doubt it."
