"I've only ever ordered their sushi on the two occasions I have been here, and the teriyaki salmon is beyond belief. Flavoursome, a bit crispy, good brown rice. "This is hands down the best Japanese restaurant I have been to in Melbourne. Their food is always super fresh and carefully made. The service is excellent and I definitely rely on Men-Tei Malvern as it is one of the few places with many healthy and tasty vegetarian picks (plenty of great tofu) and some gluten free options too."

"As this place closes at 9pm we were lucky to arrive about 8pm after a snack only function. We placed our orders and as they seem to have set menus that include a salad, it was served first for us to munch on whilst the main was being prepared, good idea, so you don't think you are waiting for hours. The salad was very fresh and tasty. I ordered Okonomiyaki as I make it myself and wanted to compare with the "experts". It was a huge one that almost covered a dinner plate. For the uninitiated this is a pancake that can have just vegetables, pork or prawns in or on top. As requested it was vegetarian and delightful. Well cooked through with a variety of vegetables and a perfect amount of the sauce and Japanese mayo squiggled in a pattern on top. I couldn't eat it all so it was packed up for Dave to eat the next day for breakfast. On the Brim website there are photos of some of the dishes and it shows 2 small Okonomiyakis but that might be a lunch version. I must work on my recipe as it does not stand up to Brim's version although the sauce was very familiar. Dave had a tasty beef curry, quite different to our usual Indian or Thai. We regret that we live interstate and have to wait for another visit to Melbourne to eat at this place again. If only we had known it was just around the corner from our hotel we would have gone every night! Great value and lovely fresh food. "Went for the wagyu buffet option with sushi/sashimi etc and I absolutely loved! can’t fault this place. The service was really good. <br/ <br/ Portion sizes allowed for us to taste every dish without being too overwhelming.<br/ <br/ Would highly recommend to give this place a shot."

"SO GOOD. We had karaage ramen, curry katsu don and chicken yakisoba. Each meal was perfectly put together and flavorful. Really fresh. Technically I rate this as a 4.5, only because each meal came out individually and it seemed to take them a while to cook each one. But definitely worth it and I will be back! It was absolutely dead for a Friday night and that’s a shame. Hidden gem."
