"Nothing beats a friendly service and good coffee on the morning, and they get them both in this beautiful little caffe in the hobart cbd. <br/>As, when the owner found out that we were from sydney, he made sure that we put on the right and the right directions. on a stage he ran back to get us a card for the Salamanca markets, great service! highly recommended."

"This is partially a tale of two locations. I was full of praise after my visit to their Battery point café. However Victoria Street wasn't quite so good. I walked into the table service area with no acknowledgement. Waited 5 minutes before there were any staff there. It also seemed a restricted menu.However things picked up with a harried but apologetic lady who took my order and then my dish of (3) poached eggs, polenta, chorizo in a ragout turned up soon after. A very hearty and tasty meal for about $13.The cake selection, although less extensive than Battery Point, looked very tempting but I resisted only because of time constraints."

"Great!. Jackman Mc Ross Bakery is housed in a double shopfront that also has outdoor seating so there are quite a lot of tables, and boy do they need them. Other than when we had breakfast here early on the last day of our holiday, the place was packed every time we went past. All of the food in the display cabinets looked fresh, interesting and absolutely delicious and, unlike a few doors down, the staff were lovely. Great coffee, and I enjoyed my baguette with prawns, avocado and mayo which was one of the daily specials."

"We have driven past The Picnic Basket many times and always said we must call in. Today we did.It was about 1:30pm when we stopped and found the place to be at least half full so it is very popular. There were plenty of staff on and service was very prompt. We were given a drinks menu and a meal menu. The menu as mentioned by others is very hipster with very little of the basics. We ordered a flat white and a mocha, a brownie and a ham and cheese Croissant ($21 in total). The brownie came out very quickly, then the croissant came out about 5 minutes later. We waited for our coffees to come out but as my croissant was getting cold i started eating it, i was half way through before the coffees arrived it probably took about 10 mins after the croissant arrived before the coffees arrived. To me it is poor management when a meal comes out in dribs and drabs. It also didn't seem that anyone was running the show. The brownie looked good but that's where it stopped, It didn't have any real crust to it and there was no flavour, but it was moist. The croissant was good with real leg ham, but was needing more cheese or cheese with some flavour. There was also a strange but mild under taste that i can't put my finger on. The coffee was very washed out. My partner could not finish her flat white as there was little flavour and no body to it. My mocha had a washed out coffee flavor, it was just saved buy the chocolate, but had no real body. I am thinking that this may be due to the barista who was flat out the whole time we were there are the coffee machine only had three heads and from the looks of the amount of customers they need a bigger or second machine. I would hate to try and get a coffee when they are really busy.The cafe needs a bit organisation, when we arrived it wasn't clear that there was table service and this followed for others that arrived. When it came time to pay there was no table number, so i had to try to explain what table we were at, while waiting to pay in line in an area that is too small for a queue. New customers were trying to find a menu and if the line up was to order or just to pay. The menus were not readily available.In the highly populated cafe / coffee shop culture in Hobart there is no room for mistakes or poor quality coffee or food. There are plenty of other places to spend my money that nails it every time. I won't be in a hurry to go back when there is better around for the same price."
