"On previous visits we really loved the food, and reckoned it the best we ate in Madeira. Sadly it’s changed hands, and the menu is much less imaginative. I think they’ve put up prices as well.We had to sit outside, the interior smelt of wood smoke (which gives me asthma) when we arrived, but the smell had cleared by the time we left.Food took a bit longer to arrive than we expected. We ordered swordfish and a burger. Chips were not well browned, and didn’t feel crisp and fresh. I bit into the swordfish, and it tasted burnt. Turning it over showed a large black area. Luckily only the coating was spoilt, the fish was OK but the flavour was just acceptable, not as good as we expected. The side salad was rather dull in both presentation and contents.The burger was slightly burnt, and not that good in quality,However everywhere, including the toilets, was very clean, although the waste paper basket by the wash basin needed emptying.There’s plenty of competition here, and I think it’ll be easy to find a better place to eat. We won’t be going back. I’ve given it 2 stars, partly because it was so disappointing compared to previous visits. I had so looked forward to going there again, as it was about the best restaurant we found on Madeira, this time was an unpleasant surprise."
