"My wife and I live locally in the neighborhood and have been excited about Essex Market (where Essex Pearl is for years now! When walking down the main staircase this restaurant takes up your whole view and seems as if it is 80% of the entire Market! We stopped by on opening night and had the oysters because the kitchen was opening the following weekend. My wife and I are not very food savvy, but Essex Pearl took care of that with detailed information, tasting recommendations, first class service, and of course most importantly DELICIOUS FOOD. We went back the following week on date night and tried the main kitchen and were extremely impressed. The Front House Manager Nicole was awesome and gave us an amazing wine choice, recommended plates (Shrimp Fritters and Hamachi Appetizer are AMAZING! , and again the full service was AWESOME. "This was one of the better restaurants around What happened on Sunday night Made me say that I'm not going back . our waitress was making drinks said she was cooking in the kitchen and management was visibly missing My fish was over cooked so they clearly missed a beat. Skeptical that they will bounce back. Very expensive for that kind of service"

"Went to celebrate my daughters birthday. We were a large party so made a reservation for We received a confirmation of that reservation only to arrive and be told that our dinner time was at The host blamed me and said I must have made it at that time. I showed him the confirmation from open table but he said we still had to wait. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks but the bar didn’t have any more martini glasses. We had to wait or change drinks. We finally got our drinks only to be told the table was ready. They wouldn’t move the drinks to a dinner tab and no one carried our drinks over to the table (we hadn’t even drank from them yet). They squeezed us into a table where one person had to sit at the end putting them in the way of the server’s station. There was no acknowledgement of a Birthday celebration (which has always occurred when we noted it as such). Food was good and the service was ok. There was no extra effort by the staff to turn our experiences around. Overall disappointing. Given the many many choices in NY, we won’t go back."
