"A friend and I went to this Smitty 's for a bite to eat after a day of shopping. We were shown to 2 or 3 tables but another server kept saying oh that table hasn 't been cleaned yet . We finally were shown to a table...that had been cleaned closest to the kitchen, probably so the server wouldn 't have to walk so far. There were several servers at the restaurant, but the only one my friend and I had a problem with was ours. She kept talking, very loudly and about topics that we weren 't interested in. Like the medical problems of one of her co workers (Sarah) (she actually named her co worker). About how another Smitty 's in Southern Manitoba had closed because one of the staff was asymptomatic with Covid 19 and how the bacon in this restaurant was too salty for her taste. We didn 't ask her what she preferred. At one point, this woman (Carrie) actually eavesdropped on a comment my friend made and put her 2 cents worth in. Perhaps if she talked and eavesdropped less and cleaned more tables, we wouldn 't have to be shown to 2 or 3 tables before we were seated. The food was very good but Carrie needs some serious training and/or verbal reprimands."

"Every so often there’s a restaurant that I somehow managed to miss, despite it being in my neighbourhood, and even with people referring to it quite regularly. Viva Restaurant, which specializes in Vietnamese and Chinese food is one such place. I went once last year, and had intended to get back, but for some reason never managed to make it. So, in the last couple of weeks I decided to make visiting a priority."

"Mmm mmm good! Connie makes the best breakfast, go for her perfect over easy eggs, yummy sausage and toasted bannock. They always have a newspaper to read, hot coffee and great tunes. Super friendly. You should forsure go. * They close early because its a breakfast and lunch place, worth it because it's also very affordable."

"Thunderbird is a Winnipeg must do! Everything about it is great; best burgers, slaw and fries in Winnipeg! I have eaten here countless times:late breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night snack! The burgers and slaw are so thunderously delicious; and then there are the fries, and everything else on the menu. My mother introduced me to this spot; and my mother's generation knew burgers! This was her favourite spot; no visit was complete without a Sunday stop at Thunderbird. This restaurant is a tradition that just speaks to great tradition in food and service. The service is prompt and swell; staff and patrons create a genial atmosphere through the easy flow of dialogue; people have no hesitation to converse with each other, and the owners are always sure to check if your meal is as delicious as promised.... and those pickles... crispy, crunchy, not too salty... just absolutely, thunderously right! Nothing will disappoint at this "burger joint" that's a "heaven to the tummy"... you'll probably take home the left overs! The soups are delicious; the salads are very generous in their portions. Don't miss this "haven"! The decor might be dated but it just adds to the nature of the burger experience. It is just a great, traditional burger place that's not pretentious: great/delicious food, great service, original retro decor and great people! You won't be disappointed; I don't know if it's a regular service, but we have had success with reservations."

"A trip to the North End in Winnipeg should always include a stop at Eddy's Place. It is a pool hall frequented by long time regulars. We try to get here a few times a year for their corned beef sandwich and fries. The portions...are more than adequate and I prefer a hot corned beef with hot mustard and fresh rye bread. Hubby likes his corned beef cold and neither disappoints, ever. A regular order of fries can be shared because you really don`t need a full order each. The tables are clean and seating is booths. The guys play their games of pool and kibbitz with their friends and the staff. Hours of business are 9 to 3. Call ahead if you`re not sure."

"This was our first time here and it was easily the best breakfast place we 've tried in Winnipeg and maybe anywhere (we 've traveled around the world). We enjoyed this more than The Original Pancake House and IHOP in Winnipeg. Also better than Denny 's and Smitty 's. We haven 't tried other breakfast places in Winnipeg. TOPH and IHOP have this beat hugely in terms of atmosphere and decor, but not in food IMHO.Our server was very busy as someone had called in sick, but she was lovely and attentive. We were there during the Saturday breakfast rush (9am) but easily found seating for 4 and our food came out incredibly quick.My meal (the first picture) was sooooo delicious and unique. The Old-fashioned Ham Cheese Curds Skillet. It was described as: "Shredded old-fashioned ham, mixed peppers, red onions and cheese curds. Covered with a mix of Hollandaise sauce and pure maple syrup. "Ohhh it was good. Not remotely healthy but fun for every now and then. Our entire party thoroughly enjoyed their meals and we will return.Wheelchair accessibility: Easily accessible."
