"First time having dim sum in St. Louis. Wasn't expecting a whole ton but the food came out to be a lot better than I thought, but the service was very okay. Came on an early weekend brunch and how it works is basically the minute you sit down, the carts start rolling in. When you're done, you just go to the front to pay for your food. Soup Dumplings (XLB) There was no soup in this soup dumpling which was quite disappointing. The skin of the dumplings also wasn't super thin which is what makes these dumplings good. Could probably skip for the next time. Char Siu Bao Tastes like a regular Char Siu Bao, nothing particularly special about it. I will say that I've always been confused why the filling is always so red, do they put food coloring in it? Ham Siu Gok I was really surprised that Mandarin House carried this item because this is more of a speciality in dim sum. The fried glutinous rice was spot on, but I wasn't a super big fan of the filling which kind of fell apart after a bite. Chive Dumplings I like chive dumplings in general, and although this one wasn't the best I've ever had, it does satisfy a craving. I wish there was more filling and less skin, but I did appreciate the amount of chives there was in each bite. Turnip Cake I thought the turnip cakes, based on authenticity and flavor, was probably the best dim sum item we got. There were chunks of turnip in each bite which I appreciate and wasn't overall salty. Overall, the food at Mandarin House won't be the best you've ever had but it will satisfy a craving for sure. For two people and five dishes, the total came out to be around $35 which was a bit more expensive than my liking but I guess that's just inflation these days for you. Will come back when in need of dim sum."
