"We were delighted to have discovered the new restaurant having eaten at La Bartavelle many years ago. The old premises were very traditional, think chintz and toile, but the food was always good. What a difference! The new restaurant is the epitome of style from the exposed stonework to the sliding patio doors, from the suspended light fittings to the sparkle on the paintwork in the bathrooms. However, this is not just a case of style over substance. The restaurant is very well run, the service professional and the food excellent. It’s a popular venue and reservations would be recommended. We started with the cocktail maison which was served with a dish of olives. An amuse bouche of toasts with very garlicky tapenade and spicy hummus was also served. The menu d’Angele at €30 gave plenty of choice, the dishes were nicely presented and the portions generous. If you have room left opt for the cheese board instead of dessert! We didn’t but the assiette gourmand was also a good choice. It’s worth noting that, for those driving, wine is available by the glass so there’s no obligation to order a bottle or to feel you are missing out. Of course the wine list is extensive if you can manage a whole bottle and reflects the output of the region. We thought that it represented very good value for money and can’t wait to come back in the summer when we hope to sit out in the attractive courtyard."
