"I spent four weeks in Fiumefreddo doing farm work, and I made a fairly frequent appearance at Bar Castillo. While the inexpensive aperitifs and cocktail selection is great, and the pastries and gelato were also all delightful and representative of the region, what really drew me back was how friendly the staff was. However, get anything with pistachio in it and be happy with life. Also, the best limoncello I had throughout my two months in Sicily and Italy. It’s a family run establishment and regardless of which generation I dealt with, they were always very friendly and kind to me. I received more free pastries in my time there then I have in the entirely of my life. While the youngest of the family speak English the best, language barriers won’t be a major issue with such helpful, friendly people behind the counter. Thank you Bar Castello, I truly felt at home there. (It’s also a great place to watch the people of Fiumefreddo gather and interact with one another). I often went alone though I also at times went with a fellow Workawayer."
