"I really wanted to like this place. The cute gelato colours & interesting furniture had caught my eye a couple of times as we walked past. I kept trying to talk my partner into going there, and eventually I convinced him.Our first issue was with seating. If you wanted to sit anywhere near a fan's breezy orbit, you had to perch on bar stools made from giant (I'm assuming upcycled) steel springs. They look kinda cool but are not remotely practical to sit on. There were a couple of regular tables & chairs on the footpath, so we switched to them instead, although it was a stifling hot afternoon with no sea breeze. We ordered our first drinks, and out came a small shot glass full of warm vodka, oj, and dried cranberries for me. Seriously? Is refrigeration that hard to come by? I had expected cranberry juice, not dried cranberries, but figured I'd give it a shot anyway. Ugh. This drink would have been enormously improved by steeping the dried cranberries in some cranberry vodka (in a fridge for a few weeks) so that they were rehydrated prior to making the drink. And perhaps make it clear on the menu that it is dried cranberries and not cranberry juice you're getting, in your non-chilled drink. I figured maybe I'd tried to be too adventurous, and my next request was just for a regular frozen margarita. Every place in Mexico knows how to make one of those, right?Hmmm. Something odd about my margarita. It tasted as if it had some Indian spices in it? Not what you expect in a margarita, and again, if this is the venue's version, state that on the menu to avoid unpleasant surprises. I just wanted a margarita!A little perturbed now by my two drink failures, we ventured hesitantly to the food menu. We ordered shrimp tacos (figuring this is something on just about every menu in town, so can't be impossible), and the Botana Delixious. I hadn't figured out if this meant I would be getting one type of entree or a range of different types of entrees, and my pretty useless Spanish didn't work for our waitress, whose English was as bad as my Spanish. What came out were some little rolled tortillas stuffed with meat, that had been fried to within an inch of their lives. They were served on a bed of shredded lettuce and some sliced tomatoes. The tomato was truly excellent & was the highlight of the meal. We were not offered a range of sauces to accompany our meal (which has happened in every other place we've eaten in the three weeks we've been here, so I've kinda come to expect it). I had to ask for a salsa to eat my dried up fried treats, and was brought a teaspoon of habanero sauce. Good grief. To add insult to injury, biting down on my tortilla I discovered a toothpick trying to impale the roof of my mouth. Given we were the only people in the place, you would have thought there was plenty of time for care & attention to detail to have avoided sending out a meal that contained a boobytrap? Sadly, the shrimp tacos were also depressingly ordinary - shrimps coated in a soft doughy batter, the tacos were dry & tasteless. The local food is so much better than what's on offer here. Eat at one of the other great places around Puerto Escondido would be my advice!"
