"We had the set menu for dinner yesterday and enjoyed it enormously. Savoury food was all good; the antipasti were beautiful and cleverly put together. For starters we had ribollita and scallops, both brilliantly executed. Our main courses were a ragu bianco of pork (rich and unctuous) and cod (a really clever bit of cooking). Sweet food was a bit of a letdown. The food was nicely made but flavours were lacking; the dishes we chose were ‘just sweet’ and had little depth or complexity. The sticky toffee pudding was light and the puffed oats were a nice addition, but the pudding needed an earthy quality which it lacked and instead it just gave a generic refined sugar taste. Similar with the tiramisu — nicely put together and the bittersweet chocolate with it was a good addition but there was no booze or punch to it, it was just a sweet, creamy pile really. Other than this everything was really lovely though. Service was great — attentive, friendly staff with good recommendations. A great wine list. The ambiance was spot on as well, striking a nice balance between between upmarket and relaxed. Strange detail but the window over the kitchen in the bathrooms is lovely! All in all, a great restaurant. I would certainly want to come back in future but I do hope the pastry work improves!"
