"Have been visiting Sale Pepe for 40 years and have always given it 4 5 stars. Restaurant recent closed for refurbishment and this was our first return. The refurbishment looks good and has retained ‘old’ atmosphere but with a high quality update. Sale Pepe has never been cheap but given its location, excellent service and food, this has never been issue. Until now. The menu has been revamped with most Italian ‘favourites’ removed and replaced. The prices are eye watering, even by Knightsbridge standards and the service, whilst abundant was ineffective with long waits for drinks despite repeated requests. The food was ok but not a patch on previous standard despite almost doubling the cost. It just didn’t deliver an Italian (or any other) restaurant experience at any level. Translating the menu into Italian does not make the food authentic Italian. I want to be delighted at Sale Pepe, not disappointed and reluctant to revisit. Simply. There was no delight. The management needs to take a really good, hard look at itself and ask what does it want to be."

"We managed to get a last minute booking which surprised us, given that it was a Friday evening in the west end. When we arrived we received a warm welcome and given a nice table by the window. We ordered wine which was decanted at the table by our waitress Valentina. We chose mussels to start followed by pizza and sergios cod provencal along with a tomato and onion salad which they kindly prepared despite not being on the menu, (not always easy to achieve in many other restaurants) The mussels were tiny and many of the shells were empty, however the marinara sauce was tasty. The pizza, quattro formaggi was incredibly salty and doughy. The cod dish was bland and in our opinion the fish was undercooked. We were hungry so ate what we could. But left a considerable amount of food untouched. When the waitress came to clear she could obviously see that we had not enjoyed the food and asked how it was. She was also surprised that no-one had come to do a quality check. She said she would go and speak to the manager, which she did. After we paid and made to leave the manager then approached and offered us a limoncello which we declined. Sadly we were disappointed and despite there being many celebrity photographs adorning the walls, we found the experience underwhelming."

"Having last visited this restaurant as a child and having very fond memories of family evenings there I was delighted to return today and find the same owners still in place and the same brilliant food. The owner could not have been more welcoming and my 6 year old daughter, having been gifted a free ice lolly after enjoying a delicious bowl of authentic spaghetti carbonara, described the restaurant as “the best in the world”"

"Just a few minutes walk from the Queenstown road, this beautiful Italian place offers a good selection of food and wine. we passed by the afternoon and enjoyed our meal. what would have done it 5 stars would be the facilities, a territory they should consider as upgrade. overall nice eating, beautiful experience."
