"Le Grand Cafe de l'Univers is slap bang in the middle of the square in the centre of Saint Quentin and it is no surprise that they offer a menu touristique. Expectations weren't that high as we sat down but were quickly exceeded. We didn't have very long before heading north to Calais but, unlike some city centre restaurants where the service could best be described as glacial, at l'Univers the staff were always around, always paying attention and would respond very quickly to any request. My wife chose the Lieu noir en papillote which she found to be perfectly cooked and very tasty. I went for the Moules mariniere which were in generous supply and well seasoned; served with a sensibly sized portion of frites. Prices were a bit higher than you would pay in a small village brasserie, but given the quality of the food and service, I think the value was reasonable. l'Univers isn't the pinnacle of fine dining in France, but going on my experience, it is in the top tier of tourist restaurants and worth a visit. You can also enjoy the glorious art deco building and decor."
