"That was a hot summer in mid 2000’s we were strolling around in Bergamo, 1 hour-drive from Milano. We kept walking enjoying the sunshine and admiring the fashionable locals on the street until we saw a looong line in front of a gelato joint. Without hesitation, we joined the queue. And my... it was obviously definitely the most delicious gelato I have ever tasted in my life. Fast forward 2016 when I was ‘stranded’ in Brisbane, I went to a few gelato joints in town before finding this gem. I have to say that La Macelleria gelato is the closest to the gelato I tasted in Italy. It’s soft and fresh and you can even still enjoy it in a cold winter night. My favourites are: pistacchio, cioccolato, tiramisù, coffee, cassata siciliana, malaga, bacio and caramello salato. And don’t forget to add a gelato filled cannoli to complete your treat!"

"We visited Claret House after searching for gluten free restaurants for dinner and we were amazed at the quality of food and service. We ordered small plates to share and enjoyed everything we tried, especially the melt in your mouth pork belly! The service was quick and friendly and the food remarkably well priced considering the amazing quality and quick service. We will definitely be going back!"

"After waiting for a longer but not unreasonable amount of time, I was dreaming of what my hot cakes my look, taste and feel like as they hit my palate. I can confirm it was absolutely nothing like what eventuated. The “hot cakes” were burnt...on the outside and gooey and inedible on the inside. They were like someone had whacked some (read: predominantly) shredded coconut, GF flour and an egg in a pan and called it “hot cakes”. The hot cake God’s will be weeping. They couldn’t have been further from the light fluffy flavour explosion the name would suggest. The mismatched “fruit salad” on the side and an fascinating yet generous scoop of straight date paste on the side only added to the insult. Ironically there was no namesake apple to be seen. They just isn’t words to describe the disappointment of going home and making myself toast with week old bread because it was more appealing than actually eating these. The coffee was reasonable and the only reason why I feel comfortable offering a token star. Safe to say I won’t be risking this place again"

"I was intrigued by the premise of this cafe: its all about Earnest Hemingway, the C20th American literary "giant" (depending on your perspective -- most readers know as much about his personal life as his work. Let's just say he was a man's man). Anyway, fascinating to see the premise carried through: his "old man and the sea" tract reflected in fishing nets and sea paraphernalia, books and other mementos that reference his oeuvre. Not many cafes do this kind of theming anymore. But if it's a playful way to set the cafe up, it's let down by the indifferent attitude of the staff. The barista and waiter today were just going through the motions; no personal engagement, served with a hint of better-things-to-do.BUT the food was good. They have a small but well-rendered breakfast menu featuring the usual: eggs benny, avo on toast, scrambled, poached etc, plus some specialities such as the zucchini fritters and slow cooked minced beef. They serve fresh juices, but the coffee, with a lovely dense crema, had an acidic, dusty after-taste.Hemingway's is reasonably priced and the preparation and quality of the food seems to be of a high standard (if my breakfast is anything to go by). If on my visit I had been offered hospitality as well, it would have been a winner."

"True Italian Cuisine, easy to order Menu, not a lot of confusing choices, Steak Tartare and caviar with Buffalo Mozzarella on a focaccia pizza base, should be made a regular. All meals were above standard and more like 10 star. Gnocchi with Broccoli cream and clams, was heaven, best ever Gnocchi, booked again for the 20th of Jan for Lunch, will become a habit."
