"My wife and I ate (along with a longtime friend were were treating) ate lunch at The Canteen. We have eaten here before lunch and wanted to go back again on this latest visit to HRM. Dartmouth is my wife's hometown and we know it...very well. My mistake, I again ordered the seafood chowder. Half the bowl was mussel shells and not nearly enough seafood - more potato and bacon actually. Our friend asked for a simple garden salad and instead she was brought a heavy kale salad (which she doesn't like) and I was charged or so for it. She left of it and we were embarrassed that she really had nothing to eat at all. I've had many seafood chowders over the years (including elsewhere on this same trip) and this was far from outstanding. In our minds, this location was overrated and owner/chef seems overly impressed their own menu selection and ingredients. Too bad, it is a great downtown location and the COVID protocols were excellent. Plus the server was attentive, if not reactive to our guest's clear lack of satisfaction with her lunch."

"Food was good and service was okay! We had spring rolls and kale salad! The presentation was good and the food was okay! They close at 10 but make sure you are there by 9:30!"

"The crobster roll is wicked. I would’ve gave it a 5-star rating but you can’t buy fries at the Little C, you can only get them when you dine-in at The Canteen. Sell me some fries to go! They’re so good and it’s a shame they aren’t available for takeout."

"Service was lovely. Options for gluten free. Server was lovely about requests to our order. Lunch special had lovely flavours and was truly well crafted. Lovely tea in a pot. Fabulous coffee Atmosphere was a bit noisy up until after 1 pm. But regardless we will come back soon."
