"Do not go to this cafe when you are ribbed by old, creaky, and not so clean neighborhood dives. This is a rather decaying older purple building that houses a basic cafe serving Cuban sandwiches, strong cafe con leche and bitter espresso, and a variety of good yet cheap cookies, pastries and cakes in Silverlake. Here you find something to like. The bathroom is located outside the café in the small meeting house/room next door. Do you offer medianoche (midnight sandwich) with shredded pork, ham, pimples and cheese pressed in soft yellow? something brioche like bread. I personally like the ham better, but others like the shredded pig. The ham is firm and chewing with a beautiful smokey taste and a beautiful contrast to the creamy cheese. They are wrapped in a soft bowl of a bread that offers a chewing and soft texture that is very sweet. The pickle offers the subtle veggie crunch and tart counterpoint to all this gooeyness. I cleaned out most of the shredded pig because it was too dirty and muddy for me. They offer turkey and cheese croissant, pork and cheese, ham and cheese sandwich, veggie sandwiches, salads and more. Their biscuits and pastries are gigantic, their Guava cheesecake in flocky pastry crust is rich and satisfying. I enjoy their strong hot creamy cafe con leche that they can make with full or 2% milk. This coffee balances the sweet and rich food in the café and gives the senses a sniff or ribbed. It is a comfortable and relaxed place for people to read, chat or just introverted. The owner is sweet and took over in 1995 because he wanted a comfortable neighborhood joint. He joked that he bought places he had hung in himself. Parking can be a pain, but persistent and you will find something. Read the road cleaning signs carefully!!!"
