"El castano, located on the osborne road in jesmond, is a beautiful little restaurant. the personal is friendly and eating is beautiful, with a wide range of traditional Spanish dishes offered. the bar also holds a wide range of drowned and bottled alcoholic and alcohol-free drinks. the atmosphere in the device is relaxed and intimate, with candles and fab decor. I had no problems booking a table for a Saturday night and eating was very cheap. we ate boiled in white wine and garlic, chorizo, meatballs, carrots with tweezers and paprika, garlic mushrooms and garlic bread. the food was great and the bottle bulmers that wet ranked were also beautiful! I'm going back to el castano."

"Bizarre experience. The restaurant was empty except for our family and another couple. We were both sat in the same area, a small mezzanine type area overlooking the river. Throughout our meal the waiting staff were overly attentive and there was never a moment when one of them was not peeking from behind a wall. It felt like we were being surveilled upon. The food was tasteless except for the extreme levels of salt. The levels of cleanliness were only just adequate. My wife and I felt quite sickly after our meal and craved multiple glasses of water to deal with the high levels of salt in the meal. If you love very salty carbohydrates go to this place but I will not be revisiting."

"I am sad to be writing this review, as I love this restaurant, but I visited today with two friends it was a disaster from start to finish. Drinks (3 soft drinks) did not arrive, despite asking 3 times, starter arrived with no dips. Main course took ages then order was wrong. When it arrived the penne Roma with chicken(which I often order) was tasteless. I only ate the chicken and left the pasta. When I complained instead of apologising they accused me of eating it, then complaining. Treating a regular customer this way is shocking. I asked to speak to the manager, they took the pasta off the bill but still no apology. Sorry Sambuccas me and my friends will take our business elsewhere and won’t be back. Very poor."

"A lovely atmosphere, cute interior, and good food the pork belly starter was nicely balanced with a sweet minty base and the veggie lasagna main was very satisfying but also light at the same time. Cocktails were absolutely great, there’s an everyday deal of 2for1 and it’s so worth it. Plus staff were so friendly and accommodating, really tying the whole experience together will definitely be back for another visit."
