"What a sublime experience. Elegant decor, extremely attentive staff without being intrusive, one of the best (most extensive) wine lists I’ve encountered in SA, and exquisite food—both on the palate and the eye. Starters are roughly in the R150-200 range, mains roughly R300-400, desserts roughly R150-200. Live music is exactly the right style and volume to complement the setting. An excellent choice for a special occasion!"

"Convenient stop. Unfortunately, there are no shade parking, unless late afternoon on Sheetstreet side. What puts me off are the demanding car guards, nowhere to be seen when looking for a parking, but the moment you leave, it's like a bee hive. In Covid time, one of them blew their nose on my driver's window."

"This restaurant is located within the Melrose Arch hotel, in an area popular for great restaurants of all cuisines. I visited on a Friday night there was only one other couple dining there. The internal decor was superb and really smart. The table was large and laid well with everything spotlessly clean. I was initially left a little disappointed by the menu since it wasn’t the most varied and I wasn’t left spoilt for choice. However, there’s a good number of wines available for reasonable prices and this was served quickly and professionally at the start of the meal. The chicken soup starter was incredible! The perfect amount of spice gave it a good kick, nice pieces of meat and a delicious small slice of toast topped with cheese and herbs. The portion size was also good and is one of the best starters I’ve had in recent years! Some small bread rolls were also served with a couple of dips which were really tasty. For the main dish I opted for the lamb shank. Again this was a sizeable portion and the meat fell off the bone beautifully. The sauce was probably a little overpowering but the vegetables were tasty and the dish was presented well. The panna cotta desert was fine although I don’t recall seeing any desert wines on the menu which would have rounded things off nicely. For the price it was a really good meal and a well executed experience by the staff. It was lovely to have the chef come out at the end of the meal to check how things had been and he seemed genuinely receptive to feedback. I would have no hesitations about returning here but a bit more variety would encourage me sooner."
