"Modern European/Australian cafe-bistro-restaurant. Smart decor with a large covered outside dining area. Extensive and innovative menu, all day breakfast, lunch and dinner with daily specials board. Licensed (good wine list) and BYO. Prices are reasonable and the value is very good. The food is all freshly cooked and nicely presented. The Lamb Wellington and the Seafood Pie are excellent as are the pizzas and pasta dishes. Great salads and lovely desserts. The owner Michael knows how to look after his customers, with attentive staff who actually keep an eye on the tables and the service is prompt, professional and friendly. It's a local favourite for us and a great place to go pre or post catching a film at the nearby Cremorne Orpheum. One of the best restaurants in the area."

"Had an enjoyable afternoon with a movie at the Orpheum (Truth wonderfully acted by Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford) with a very enjoyable moussaka and a couple of beers. Excellent family style meal - may be basic but they do it well."

"Ate there in a party of 5 people - took the Thursday night tasting plate menu at $39 per head. Good value and the highlights being the beef (which we upgraded with great chips) and the chocolate dessert.Took our wine and paid $10 per bottle surcharge.The front bar looks really nice and suited to couples while the backroom is more suited to groups.We would all go back to The Barrel - a really nice night out."

"Thought we would try here with a on line dealWas disappointed that there was just a limited menu set aside got deal , most places allow you to choose from almost the entire menuThe entrees were good , some spice and flavour The mains we both had the fish , not fresh which was disappointing looked like it had come from the freezerThe rest of the plate was good the chickpeas and the spiced beetroot No complaints about the service friendly and efficient All in all though don't think we will be back"

"I used to be a local in this restaurant, but the menu had to change as it was quite bland. at my last visit I complained about how my beef vindaloo was contaminated, that they tried to fix it by salting the food. I was pretty... open when I was there for a while."

"Beautiful meal, good service. I recommend the prawns here we had the prawn laksa as well as the salt and pepper prawns. Both dishes were delicious, evidently made with very fresh large prawns. We also enjoyed the deep fried ice cream at the end as a throwback to our childhood. It is a Chinese restaurant with a nostalgic feel to it, as if you have entered a time warp 20 years ago with some dated decor. This atmosphere makes it all the more authentic and true to style, it serves tasty authentic Chinese cuisine."
