"Visited as my wife and I were staying on the site in Sept so during COVID. Booking was awkward as you need face book or the phone number, but once I’d sorted my IT out no issues. Service was good, social distancing excellent, cleanliness...of areas excellent. The choice of food was not huge but catered for all tastes and was very tasty. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Recommend veg curry and lasagne."

"Can not describe the spectacular eating I had tonight. I have spent one thing to decide what to have, then I stumbled on the crab shell. I wasn't disappointed. it was glorious. then I asked which wein is best paired with the court, and again I was not disappointed by the least. my partner really enjoyed his meal. the whole experience was exquisite. I enjoyed myself very much as it was nice to eat and the staff was so beautiful and seemed passionate about Italian cuisine. 100% recommended!"

"Booking a table proved a bit of a marathon, with three phone calls going straight to voice message saying you can't leave a message so phone back and two e-mails going unacknowledged..... Fourth call got through tho'. Not sure what we were expecting from the...pictures and reviews but the pub had loads of parking nearby and a reasonably level access into the pub from the car park. Equally unsure about the new refurbishment as it seems to have eliminated most if not all of the character of the pub. Sunday lunch was just barely ok. The beef was flavoursome, if a little tough. Presentation was a little haphazard , perhaps. The Nut Roast vegetarian option looked a mess but was apparently more than acceptable. The service by the young and pleasant staff was perfectly fine, if a little slow at times. All in all, and taking into account the fact that the Ilfracombe area on a Sunday in early November is a bit of a culinary desert, everything was decent enough but nothing to shout out Gosh, that was good'. Would we ever go back? Pretty certainly not. And lastly, we were overcharged, which I did not notice until later. I do hope it was a genuine error as overcharging by whatever means did seem to be rather common during our three day stay in Ilfracombe. The venerable change for a tenner when a twenty was given happened twice during our stay......."

"We haven't visited this pub for some time, how pulled away, but last week we were for a walk on the moors and decided to dive back on the way. I had forgotten what a jewel this place is. we thought of a drink, ended the conversation and a few friendly faces came up, which led to stay longer. a solution was found. steve, the “famous” renter said that he had a field that we had so happy at the back of the pub we had the van and we decided to stay. what a night. I do not remember the last time I laughed so much, discussed the world problems and treated many themes. what a really pleasant random night. ends with us sat on the field and observed a spectacular meteorite shower that filled the sky. the next day woke and saw from the window to see horses, sheep and a beautiful summer morning. chatted to a few other campers and the tour of the renter came by and offered us very friendly a coffee before we left. we are looking forward to a return trip very soon and will be prepared. this is a truly unique hidden gem on exmoor and expects the unexpected. a night to remember for a very long time"
