"My wife and I have eaten at Dinner Bell many times and we have always been pleased with the quality and quantity of their food at a reasonable price. This past Friday we stopped in for their Friday Fish and Chips Special. We were the...first to arrive around 5:00 p.m. There are several alternatives on type of fish and sides. We both chose the 2 pieces of cod and chips with the salad bar option for $14.99. The All You Can Eat option is also $14.99 but no salad or soup. Salad bar was obviously full with an excellent choice of toppings and dressings. We had water which is served nicely in a big glass jug. Our dinner came promptly and was beautifully presented on a large wood platter as shown in photo. The French Fries were in a large wire basket and looked delicious and were golden brown with many very long fries indicating non-frozen. Unfortunately the chips were not hot and were limp like spaghetti and were not crisp. I love great French Fries and these were hugely disappointing and my wife and I agreed they were ‘terrible’. My mistake for not sending them back or complaining and we did leave a 20% tip as the service was very satisfactory. The fish was quite acceptable although my wife does not prefer the crispy hard shelled batter. By coincidence, we ate out with 6 others the next day at Camp Conewango and those that ordered their Fish Chips received larger fish portions and the chips were likely the frozen variety but tasted better than we had at DB. I dislike leaving negative reviews, especially for a small family business but that is what needs to be done. For great French Fries I will need to return to Turcotte’s in Mattawa or Potato Headz trailer in North Bay."
