"Always loved this place. Prices are reasonable, food is great, atmosphere is relaxed. Only downside? When it's full, it can be extremely noisy (but obviously right). Fav foods? I love the green salad that comes with the bread and butter. Escargot (of course), onion soup (obviously, this is a French restaurant), duck, steak tartare (sorry, I'm a big steak tartare fan), the sausages, and the gratin dauphinois (absolutely to die for...but this is a big portion and better to be shared). And because it's a French restaurant...I always go for their house white and red wines (only in 2 cuisines do I have the house wine...French and Italian. Why? Because even the house wine from these...read more"

"Really nice venue and good food with rather average service at a high price. We all had burgers which were OK and drinks but fort the money it was not that amazing!"

"Been trying to book this restaurant for ages , finally got a table for 2 and realised why I failed previously trying to book a table for 6+. Its not the biggest restaurant but it is very good. Warm friendly atmosphere , attentive staff , good grub especially fish. Thoroughly recommend it but perhaps not for big family meals of 8+. Romantic though like the Italian restaurant in Lady and the Tramp ."

"Great new addition to Commercial Quay... just grabbed a quick lunch of Arbroath Smokie roll and Mutton Pie- the bread was beautiful for the smokie bun, packed with the crunch of cucumber. The pastry for the pie was UNREAL, using house-rendered lamb fat and tasting all the better for it. Thoroughly recommend."

"We went for an early Sunday evening meal with a very reasonable voucher of 5pm.co.uk service falling in agreement with previous reviews I would agree that the service was light haphazard, but this was mainly caused by an air that abhorse due to speech barriers. After we entered this, we found the personal to be both polite and any opportunity to deal with us and to give their own unbiased recommendations. food very good. as a set menu deal seemed the portions smaller than the without a good one, but this was perfectly reasonable for the price. my beginning at muscheln pakora was something I did not meet and was very annoying. there was no indication of dryness, as it can often be the case with pakoras. the crispy squid, who accompanied this, had a delicious dusting of seasoned. critically it also avoided any similarity with chewing a ripe that can occur so easily with the squid if a few seconds boiled too long. overall the starter was more michelin, less michelin ripen. for the first I had halibut. a favorite of me, because it is the ability to fly the lines between fish and the carnival meat of the country. it was moist while easily fled with my fork in fleshy pieces. it was accompanied by a sweet kartoffelfont, besides the fast fried earlyling wobbles and chicory. a drop-wise harbour reduction brought the plate together. the desert was a dark chocolate cheesecake with raspberry-champagner-couli. the dark chocolate was obviously, less so the baileys support. I'm more a sweet man, but the ones with a sweet tooth would have loved him. presented: beautiful personal, well-designed dishes, very inexpensive set menu (at this occasion over 5pm.co.uk) niggles: lacking drink cabinet with most ghosts and caught to be more supermarket sweep than to sweep me from my feet. first review, I will work to capture the photos in the future!"

"The interior has a sophisticated feel and is very much what I would expect from a nice wine bar. Their main focus is fresh, seasonal food and showcasing wine from small independent producers around the world, so you can expect some wines on the list which you might find harder to get a hold off from your local wine shop.
The menu changes regularly in order to make the most of what’s available seasonally. There were a lot of dishes on the menu we could have ordered and would have most likely enjoyed very much.
Both dishes were presented in a thoughtful manner and showed that those preparing them had carefully thought about the ingredients and presented them in a way which showed them off. The poached pear was delicious, soft with just enough bite and easy to slice. The saltiness of the gorgonzola and the crunch of the walnuts made this an excellent dish, with every mouthful tasting great. Not usually one to order a meat free starter but if this was on the menu again I’d definitely consider ordering it over meat. The crab starter was equally as tasty. It was packed full of crab and the chilli, ginger garlic flavouring of the crab was delicate enough you could taste it but didn’t overpower the crab. With both starters off to a great start we couldn’t wait to see the main course.
The main courses on offer were good Scottish, comfort type dishes. Rump of lamb, crushed Jersey royals, peas and salt baked turnip caught Mr E’s eye and I choose pork chops, creamy savoy cabbage and creamy mash with apple puree.Again both dishes were well presented. My creamy mash was delicious, no unexpected lumps and had a lovely creamy taste to it. The cabbage and apple were also delicious. The pork chop was a pretty decent size and overall the dish was great. It definitely hit the spot. Mr E’s dish was also tasty. I didn’t hear any complaints, in fact he hardly spoke whilst eating it, which is definitely a good sign. The lamb was cooked medium, which you might not be able to see from the photos but it was melt in the mouth. After such good starters and main courses it would be rude not to try out the dessert. Mr E quickly chose the cheese board and I had the pineapple carpaccio, roasted pineapple and coconut sorbet.
The cheese board was much bigger than he had anticipated. It was a lovely selection of cheeses and none which we have tried before. One helpful tip would be if the waiting staff could explain what each is cheese is when they serve it, rather than having to try and work it out for ourselves. My pineapple dessert was fresh and a welcome end to the meal. It was light and full of flavour. The coconut sorbet was excellent, I had expected to find some evidence of coconut in it but it was smooth and presumably made from coconut milk, which gave it, it’s smooth texture. My dessert was finished quickly whilst Mr E was still tucking into his cheese board so it was only right that I gave him a helping hand.
Overall we had a very enjoyable meal at Anfora and would definitely think about returning. Maybe we’ll pop along for some wine and jazz. The service is somewhat a little hit or miss. One waitress cleared my dessert plate before Mr E had finished his cheese board which I find a little rude. Everyone else who served us, we couldn’t fault. Anfora is definitely somewhere worth heading to if you find yourself down that way."

"I would only recommend it because of the venue. I don’t think it’s good value for money"
