"The good...This takes a few asterisks...you are in Salt Lake City. The bar is low, this is the land of Rubics cube sushi where most places take the same ingredients and change the order to get their different rolls. Also I am not a huge rolls person. I am a sashimi and grilled and variety person for a Japanese restaurant. That being said there are some really nice items that surprised me here. The trout... fantastic it is deboned and even the bones all the way from lips to tail is edible I ate this from lips to tail and it was great. The agadashi tofu was great. Also the sauces for all items with a Peruvian flair were really great. The sauce for both the trout and the ceviche rolls were both fantastic and I took them home. The fresh sweet shrimp though spendy were very fresh and amazing along with the toro belly. Here's where things fall apart. The no reservations get there at 5:00pm and wait an hour is a bit daunting. I get it, it is a popular place and in the world of salt lake you have here and you have mint so though I understand, ugh. Next the ambiance. It is just really really weird the clientele are very real housewives of Salt Lake City meets trying hard to be LA and it is not. I have never in my life been to a relatively high end sushi restaurant with literally no Asian staff. This is alt lake and I get it. It is just weird, and the wait staff we had were a bit LA snobbish which just doesn't work in SLC. It was our anniversary and instead is sticking around for dessert we just wanted to eat and leave. It didn't help we had obnoxious loud regulars next to us slapping our table and the wait staff fawning over them while we were regularly ignored. Go for the food not the ambience. You are in Salt Lake City, you basically have no choice. This is the best you are going to get so grin and bear it I suppose"

"My first experience at Nohm was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in SLC. Cliff and Arnold wowed me with their knowledge on the cocktails offered and Chef Dave’s cuisine was absolutely stellar. His passion for food and love of his culture was evident in presentation and flavor. Since then, I’ve been back a couple of times and I always leave happy. I’ve seen Chef Dave working as a host, food runner, busser, barback and leader of the kitchen throughout my visits. He loves what he does and it is beautiful to witness someone so kind hearted and creative live out their dream. SLC is lucky to have Nohm nestled in this city."

"Our go to Japanese restaurant. The absolute standout dish is octopus hand roll and scallop hand roll. We love them as much as our favorite ones in NYC. Another sushi we are always happy with is mackerel of different kinds. Their marination is spot on pushing the flavor. Would also recommend arctic char, tuna, toro, butter fish, uni, Ikuta, Kampachi, hamachi. The seasoning of tuna is good. Oh and the absolute key is to sit at the bar. Look for the two owners who make sushi themselves and are just great people in general. Also, ask for in-house soy sauce for your sushi. Note we really just come here for sushi, so not sure how other dishes are. Relative to Takashi, they carry fewer kinds of fish, but I honestly don't find the extra variety is worth much."

"They have a pretty good happy hour from 2-6 Mon-fri. Some rolls 1/2 off and beer is 1/2 off too. Good sushi for the price!"

"The kitchen was being repaired and we never got to eat. The restaurant called us 5 minutes before the 5 of us were all supposed to be there. Really unprofessional for a place to do this. Could have called 90 minutes before the reservation."
