"Booked a table for last minute for an early dinner on a beautiful Comporta summer day. Having read some very positive reviews online, we were all very excited for our meal. My partner and I are vegans, so we always check ahead of time...what options will be available to us and the choice was reasonable enough to give it a go! Upon arrival, we were shown to our booth by a friendly waiter who handed out the menues, wine list and cocktail list. He immediately indicated that the restaurant operated a sharing concept. My heart sunk right there...I thought to myself, here we go, another place that tries to be trendy', London style, in the middle of rice fields...they will push as many dishes to share as possible thus ensure that the bill will be driven up as much as possible...And I was right, of course of us are vegans, so yeah, not really prepared to share, so the waiter came up with the genius idea to double the portions, and the others can order their normal dishes...Of course, the sharing concept really means that dishes come as they are ready from the kitchen...lovely for them, really annoying for us...so of course, all the vegan dishes came out first, so two us were pretty much done with our meal after minutes, then the rest came through little by little. One my guest ordered the steak, as that is all he wanted to eat and we were told he will have to wait minutes...Which was acknowledged and fine. The food dishes were kind of okayish, a bit (con)fusion, often loaded with strong sauces. And some dishes (Kale tempura) came with no side sauce, which it needs one... The very small tomato salad (EUR for example came with a large quantity of strong basil coulis, which in principle if fine, but then the coulis stayed on your plate, ready to be mixed with the next dish (cheese dumplings) which came with its own coulis that was totally incompatible. Surely one would expect to see the plates changed from time to time. The wine list is very short, and the cheapest bottle of white wine on it is EUR I was shocked...Now I am a keen wine drinker, so spending that budget or more is pretty normal to me, but still, in a land where there are so many wonderful wines within all budgets, I felt, this wine list is a very indication with what this restaurant stands for...sharing concept, overpriced small dishes, expensive wine list...sounds familiar to some? Now continuing with the experience, after we where all pretty much done with our sharing for about minutes, a new waiter gentleman came to explain that the steak had been sent to the wrong table and if he could offer some other small dishes while we wait for the new steak...We explained that we were kind of done, but that our friend was starving...So thanked him politely for his offer and simply asked for the bill. euros, for some veggie starters, couple of other very small dishes, very average Aperols, euros worth of bread, and the famous bottle of wine...I love luxury dining experiences and the justifiable price tag that come with it, but this was not it. We drove to Carvalhal and all had a burger at SAL Burger sitting outside, much happier. My recommendation, stay very clear of this place, which unfortunately is riding on the Comporta trend by running a business model I precisely want to escape from when I travel to this wonderful part of the world. Portugal has a wonderful hospitality culture, amazing ingredients, lovely wines and people so plenty of other superb choice around Comporta."

"We ate here for breakfast several times since our hotel didn't include it. The make their own fresh orange juice which is delicious. The toasts and coffee are very tasty as well. They don't speak English but we were able to manage by learning a...few words in Portuguese."

"We went there for dinner. We were a party of six and ordered fish and meat from the grill and a few appetizers. The first half of the appetizers arrived soon. the second one never came. Two people had their meat after 15 minutes, the...others had to wait for fish and meat for 1 and 1/2 hours, when insisting a few times, we were always told, that it will come any minute. Here are the overall waiting times: 10 minutes: first part of appetizers 15 minutes: first two main dishes 90 minutes: the rest of the main dishes 100 minutes: Waitress asked us, if we want to have the rest of the appetizers (arrgh). But the food was fine, even if it is a bit on the salty side."

"Best fish shell ever! an excellent location on the beach that was not crowded at all. we ordered the fish of the day, the turbot, omg delicious, perfectly cooked, simply grilled, salt and pepper, lemon squeeze and fruity olive oil. the vegetables were also...profect cooked/baked. I wonder if michelin can fit together with restaurants such as elkano (san sebastian) or le bernardin (nyc)?"
