"We ate at Thai Sabai last night, I had friends visiting for the weekend and having visited a number of times before, always experiencing great food and great service thought it would be a safe bet, sadly not and it really pains me to write...this. We arrived at sat down and waited for menus. They came after around ten minutes, we then waited for someone to take our drinks orders, nobody came, young waiters/waitresses walked past us but didn’t acknowledge us. Eventually we managed to catch their eye and asked to order, it was another minutes before the manager arrived to take it. We ordered food and drinks at this point as we’d been waiting so long. We then (running theme) had a long wait for drinks, and a long wait for our starters, which we had to chase up. We had only ordered prawn crackers and a sharing dish too! The food arrived and thankfully was delicious. No further drinks were offered after our first round, we waited, again, for our plates to be cleared whilst the young servers wandered around looking miserable, by this point it had got that bad it was getting funny. Our mains then didn’t arrive until hour minutes after we had sat down..! I’ve visited around times before and when the restaurant has been full have never experienced such delays (or poor service) The food arrived and the young servers didn’t know what they were giving us, with vegetarians in the group, we obviously needed to know, they said they hadn’t asked food came out in dribs and drabs, one dish was announced as Quinoa…we think they meant King Prawns..! The food, again, was delicious, thankfully, or the night would have been a disaster!! Such a shame! Our plates weren’t cleared after we’d finished our mains, after another wait and (of course), various staff walking (idly) by, we managed to catch their eye and asked for the bill, which then normally prompts your table to be cleared too, not this time! We asked to speak to a manager at this point as we wanted to give them constructive feedback given the change in service levels, we explained the (many) issues in particular with the new serving staff and she did acknowledge the issue, said she was aware how poor they were, it came across that they just didn’t want to be there, not want you want in a customer facing role! Anyway, to round it up, great food, incredibly poor surly service. I definitely wouldn’t recommend for a special occasion or with friends."

"We called in for a drink with a party of on Saturday night, we were greeted by a group of uniformed very young staff looking like they had come straight from school, we stood at the bar waiting to be served while they finished there conversations, a young lad asked what we would like and started typing the order onto a tablet which was very slow and no drinks were being pulled while he did this even though there were several staff doing nothing. When he did finally start pulling some real ale it was just froth sorry he said its been like this for a week we cancelled that order and asked for pints of the other real ale after several tries this to was just froth I think its gone he said so we ended up with pints of keg. It took a long time to complete the order even though the pub was empty. On a previous visit the bar was vibrant and busy with more mature staff who had a zing about them , last nights staff were totally untrained but willing which was a shame. On our second round taken at the table a youngster brought the drinks but left the table full of empty glasses and we had to call him back. On the third round a gin was served in a beer glass and when the manager asked the staff to replace it it came in a whisky glass, at this point he gave my friend the extra gin free and apologized. The Royal Oak is a lovely pub nicely decorated with great out door space but has a serious staff problem it seems a case of quantity of untrained minimum wage staff over proper bar staff. I do not blame the very young staff smartly dressed as they were but the management. If the bar had been busy it would have had a serious problem,I wonder whether covid has had a bad effect or the bad service was to blame for lack of customers but it needs addressing."

"Arrived in Southwell on a Sunday to find most restaurants closed. So pleased to find this lovely restaurant. Food excellent and staff were very attentive and polite. Would highly recommend a visit."

"We had such an amazing meal , beautiful Sunday dinner, my daughter is dairy intolerant and was treated to her own veg and cauliflower cheese, nothing was to much trouble. Excellent service and Matt and Sarah were so welcoming. We will be back . We are always looking for a good Sunday dinner. Definitely recommend it ."
