"Cuastecomates is not much more than half a dozen restaurants on a quaint little beach in a sheltered bay - great for small kids. It also has the only decent snorkeling in the Barra area (along the rocks on the southeast side of the bay). We found this restaurant by noting where the local retirees were eating and were not disappointed. Over two visits we had burgers, guacamole, prawns diabla, quesadeos as well as the best pina coladas yet. All were excellent and cheap!"

"This is an amazing little restaurant located in the quiet countryside to the northeast of Bucerias. Located around 3 km past the town of El Colomo beside an arroyo is a little family run restaurant and full working ranch called Las Caguamas de Piletas. The owner, Arnold works the ranch and grows cattle, sheep, goat and chickens. All of the meat served at the restaurant is sourced from their family farm and is 100% organic as well as humanely raised. The food is prepped by his wife, who is an amazing cook. Their kids and grandchildren are always present helping out. When you arrive, you are welcomed and treated as if you were part of their extended family. We recently booked a family dinner there before Christmas. They handpicked one of their free range, grass fed goats (chivo) and made us a local Jalisco specialty called birria. This is a slow cooked stew that is braised in various chilis. It is not overly spicy.When we arrived they started us out with plates of shrimp and fish ceviche as well as tostadas and ice cold beer while our dinner was still finishing its final moments of stewing. The ceviche was fresh and tasty. One of the best ceviche I have eaten. From the kitchen, the birria stewed and the aromas captivated everyone's imaginations and when it was finally served it did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked, it fell off the bones and literally melted in our mouths. Even when I was full, i kept having to fill my plate - it was that delicious. During our evening there were several other local Mexican families present. They played banda music (local country music) on the jukebox and people were dancing under the palapa. Everyone made our entire group of 24 people feel very welcomed and included in the festivities. If you are looking for a special and unique cultural experience, I highly recommend making your way out to this special little place. If you don't have a vehicle, I recommend hiring a car and driver to take you. This is a perfect experience for a large group of any and all ages"
