"While visiting friends in Mainz, Bretzenheim we decided to eat out at one of their favorite local Italian haunts, The Olive Tree. We all chose something different, pizza, fish and liver and each one of us were thoroughly impressed with our food. My fish,. delicately...prepared in a mild butter sauce with a side of boiled potatoes and vegetables was the hit of the evening. The fish soup Vorspeise was also excellent. While the restaurant has been at this location for decades it has only a few more years to go before the landowner will tear down the restaurant and build condos. I think the area needs a few more good restaurants rather than more condos.!! Try it before it is gone for good. Staff is most congenial and their suggestions were on the mark. Das Restaurant is sehr sehr gut. Obwohl die meisten Gerichte Italainisch waren, sind die Fische moglichkeiten hervorragend"

"Dionysos We were four on this Sunday in Rüsselsheim, sold Sunday. It was nice weather but also very cold. Originally we wanted to eat there too, only the chosen shop only stopped at 6:00 and caused by the cold and hunger that did not want to wait until 6:00, was redisposed in a short hand. Two options were available, we chose the Greeks. So drive by car to almost in front of the front door, if you like us lucky, you get on the Mainzer Kästrich was once a Roman camp before infinity, so the name is a free parking place. The outdoor gastronomy is still standing, but nobody sits there. At the entrance just looked at the huge map and then inside the warm room. There the junior chief stood behind the counter and wished us a good evening. An older colleague took the jackets and brought us to the table. This was accompanied around and around by a bank. On the were comfortable upholstery with a pattern that reminds of skulls but only with weak light... . On the bare table there was a mill set for salt and pepper to my surprise. The typical Greek napkins were ready. A candle was lit when the menu was given to us. Tonkrüge, antique paintings and a few characters around us. Not too much, but still unmistakable. That's how I imagine Greek restaurant. The restaurant has 120 guests inside, 80 more outside. The tables inside are usually arranged in such a way that you eat in peace without feeling observed. But even larger tables with plenty of space are available. But we had caught a nice, quiet corner, only in a niche next to us, someone crawled loudly as long as he had no food in his mouth. We ran through the rich map. This can also be viewed online and offers the expected selection of a German Greek. To the 40 appetizers, eleven fish dishes and various grill dishes from lamb, pig, cattle and chicken. To this end, about 20 mixed dishes, oven dishes and vegetarian, noodles and desserts. For crying, the wine card is not, but only for me unknown Greek plants. That's why we ordered the drinks beforehand. For me a soft wheat from Schöfferhofer 3,40€ 0.5 and a Coke Zero 0.4 3,20€ The drinks were then served quickly by our friendly Greeks and we immediately gave orders. Shortly afterwards we were ever served an ouzo, properly tempered and one of the better Tsipouro, I didn't know until then. Then briefly searched into the cellar and the locality, washed the hands with warm water and back up. There were already the appetizers on the table... Kolithokeftedes 5,90€ zucchini buffer with Zaziki. They looked a little pale, but they were not crispy either. But they have tasted to the lady, just with the Zaziki, which was abundant, it was possible to eat well. Some mill spice was necessary for my taste. A solid 3* court. Spanakoptia 5,50€ Leaf pastry bags filled with spinach and sheep cheese, with Zaziki. Something purist, something green would not have hurt. But it must taste. And that's it. It's hard to say if it's done. The filling is tasty and well seasoned. The spinach very tasty, a fine muscatnot was to guess the feta creamy and mild enough to not steal the spinach the show. The leaf dough coat is well fried and at no time greasy or lappy. Well done. And first the Zaziki. Very, very creamy, there was also cream with in the game, well dosed garlic, a few cucumber rasps. Good pepper note, lemon and some mint provided the necessary freshness. Voice appetizer, so gladly again. 4* We were almost tired. Our companions were also satisfied, on demand when the empty plates were cleared, we were able to conjure a smile to the waiter. The guy was barely gone, he was standing with the salads at the table again. Then it continues... Supplemental salad That was nix special. Simple iceberg, Krautsalat probably from the bucket, but acceptable in taste, the carrots finely rasp but faded. The dressing must also be bought. The dark olive could really score. 3* Then it took no longer long and the main dishes were served. Kalamaris from Barbecue 12,90€ Five small Sepia, probably roasted in the pan, lacking the typical barbecue and also pattern. Tastefully but neatly, here you may have a little bit too much bite. They were marinated with an oil with Mediterranean herbs, which also fits well. Greek roast potatoes, i.e. fried potato slices, served as a supplement. They were also perfectly prepared and sufficiently salted, just what should the grated garlic on top? For me completely inappropriate, also very strict and with an uneven sharpness. Wouldn't be for me. The good Zaziki was much better. A decent court has earned 3.5*. Dimitra Teller 13,90€ For me it was of course possible to be a grill plate. Unfortunately no picture, no idea where it is. I had the plate... : Served a long plate with a steak and fillet of lamb, with fillets of pig and chicken breast. Vegetable rice, the potatoes already described above and a good Klecks Zaziki. The meat was consistently good and juicy roasted, even the lamb steak from the hip was super delicate and very tasteful. Here also the grill tracks. The typical herbal aroma of Mediterranean grilled food. A small challenge in portion technology. I've packed it, in Mannheim you'll be laughing about the Portuguese... Well saturated we longed for fermented fruit. It should be used at home. The invoice was printed separately so that each party had a neat cover, with almost 45€ for two an almost favorable intermezzo. Conclusion: The food was largely convincing. The appetizers might be a bit sweet in dressing and preparation but the main course solid. We weren't here for the last time. Although the alternatives are present in Mainz. For me the best address for Greek food in Mainz. 3.5* The service was nice, always present and fast. Good 4* ambience as mentioned above, finds my appeal. The decor is cozy and not exaggerated cheesy.4* To this end the exemplary cleanliness in all areas. Even out there was only a few fallen leaves to be seen. 4,5* I can only print the 5* card at the PLV. 4 – happy again 1 – certainly not again, 2 – hardly again, 3 – if it results again, 4 – happy again, 5 – definitely back to kitchen trip"

"During my two weeks in Mainz, I have tried numerous restaurants and Zum Goldstein was amongst my top choices for those what concerned German-style cuisine. I was there with a few colleagues and we managed to have seats outside (it was summer time), in a lovely patio. We tried numerous options from the menu, including appetizers and various species of mains courses (both non-vegetarian and vegetarian choices). All meals were perfectly cooked, delicious and generous. The service was excellent and the price, whilst a bit on the high side, is definitely OK. To finish, I would like to emphasize an important detail: consider booking a table, as the restaurant is often crowded (we tried to go there twice without booking any table, and there was no space for us). Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant for a great German cuisine experience."
