"Best bread pastry (croissants, sourdough, etc) and brunch in the area. The restaurant is hidden inside the alley so walk a little bit more when you get to the cross street (C° 43x58). Also, come early to get a table, or add your name on the waiting list because a lot of people come to dine in. Alternatively, you can place a take out order if you don't want to wait. Amazing experience and friendly staff."

"Excellent restaurant! We went twice and I ordered the same thing each time because it was so good a biscuit, huevos divorciados, and cafe con leche estilo bisquets. The cafe con leche is so delicious and the way they make it in front of you is so cool! The biscuit is as good as what you'll find in the southern US. The service is very good and prompt. I was really impressed when a very young girl came in asking for money and the staff let her choose a pastry and they packed it up for her for free. <3"

"Food was okay, nothing really spectacular. Had the enchiladas and got a Lager Yucateca beer recommended. It felt all a bit rushed, which was a pity. Waiter was friendly but wanted me to leave the minute after I finished my food. Also prices are too high for the quality of food."

"Locals love this place. I hear about it all the time. A Mexican friend of mine recently brought me and I cannot believe in the two years I have lived in Mérida that I have not stopped by. That will change, this is one of new favourite places. The hummus is fantastic, the falafel pita was also extremely good and I really loved the very spicy salsas. The people that work here are lovely. The atmosphere is very basic but sitting out in the courtyard helps matters. It's a popular spot, I've been here at 9PM on a Tuesday night and the courtyard was completely full. I don't know if they take reservations. The prices are inexpensive, especially for what you get and lower than most places in that neighbourhood."

"Last week I gave a tour of Guanajuato as I’ve experienced it, and I devoted part of that post to my quest for good local tacos. One reader said my description made her doubt her longstanding aversion to tacos. That surprised me, because I can’t imagine having an aversion to tacos. But I sometimes forget that Americans eat tacos that are definitely not tacos by Mexican standards. And I think that’s a shame because it means people are missing out on a lot of amazing meals. So this week I’m taking it upon myself to be your taco ambassador. With pictures! First let me describe what counted as “tacos” when I was a kid. Growing up white in Wisconsin, we stayed pretty close to baked chicken or baked pork chops or an occasional oven broiled steak. I don’t remember even having Chinese food till I was nine or so. So you can imagine that our tacos, when we had them, were far from adventurous. But I also think many readers will find them familiar. My mom would start by putting ground hamburger meat into a big pan. As it cooked she mixed a packet of store-bought taco seasoning into it. (Actually, for all I know you mix the meat and seasoning first; I’ve never had the dubious distinction of authoring a batch of these tacos. While that was browning up she would chop a head of lettuce, dice a few tomatoes, and if things were getting crazy maybe even dice an onion. When all this was done we’d shove it in into bright yellow “crispy” tortillas. I don’t think we even knew the word tortilla, we just said taco shells. The taco shells had been deep fried weeks before in a factory, and as I recall the packaging went to some lengths to make sure they weren’t all smashed to bits. Over these little Frito pockets we would shake shredded cheddar cheese, drizzle some jarred salsa and maybe even blob a little sour cream. Voila! C’est le tacos."
