"Booked afternoon tea, had to re check booking as the first time they didnt ask for a name or phone number and we wanted to know they could provide options for someone who was Gluten free. They said they could provide Gluten free but it was revealed they obviously couldnt when we received the afternoon teas. The gluten free option consisted of cheesecake and a couple of bought in cakes, nothing was home made, there was no scone for the gluten free person...... the staple of afternoon tea....how long does it take to knock up a batch of gluten free scones. The sandwiches consisted of two approx 2 triangles one ham one cheese and a split bread roll with very runny egg mayonaise on it, no salad or garnish to make it at least cover the micro small bottom of the cake stand, there was a scone provided on the non gluten free option and it seemed home made and there was lashings of cream and jam and it was very nice, the other cakes consisted of a difficult to describe moose type thing that had been cut so thin it just dissolved into nothing, a massive dry piece of victoria sponge....shop bought with nasty cheap butter cream and a quite nice home made but miniscule chocolate eclair. We had to ask for tea and coffee to be provided. The staff clearly had no clue what to provide for afternoon tea but were attentive and helpful and pleasant, the surroundings were quite grand but in need of some housekeeping, cobwebs in corners and on lights, a lovely view onto a veranda with a fountain and across the park. It cost us £12.50 each and it was daylight robbery for what we got, on the whole the place seemed to lack anyone in charge and appeared tired and lack lustre and they need a chef who understands gluten free diets and options and who knows how to provide an afternoon tea that has at least some wow factor. We didnt complain to the waiter as he was doing his best but wont be recommending the venue to anyone else."

"The restaurant is lovely and small. The toilet is not what you'd expect from this kind of restaurant with only one toilet (no disabled) and it is not nice at all with mis matched taps and bars at the window. We were there for the food, which varied from amazing on one course through to basic on others, such as a cheesy croquette on one course didn't have the flavour you'd expect from this kind of restaurant. It didn't help a lot of the courses came luke warm, one with cold pasta on which I think hugely impacted the taste. It's a shame as it's a tiny restaurant so I don't know how it sat for long enough or whether it's pre prepared and they didn't heat it through entirely. It is good you can bring your own drinks, we were never offered a drinks menu so we weren't sure if they sold soft drinks on top so maybe bring these too if you are going as there was no sign anywhere of people having any drinks given. Overall I potentially would try again as it is good value if it was hot food with consistent flavouring incase it was one bad night but if it's the same again I wouldn't recommend."

"Had afternoon tea and they catered for me perfectly as a coeliac vegetarian. For once I didn’t have to go without or feel left out. Mind was also just as lovely as the normal version. The quality was excellent and plenty of it. A good price too £29.99 for two people. Highly recommend. Nice staff and cute place too, and nearby the high street so nice places to wonder afterwards. Clean toilets too."

"Poor customer service. I ordered 2 hot drinks and a mincemeat Bakewell tart. Unfortunately the tart was stale and hard, lacking any taste apart from the mincemeat. When I complained to the server, she mentioned they had sold 58 pieces of the tart that day, and no one else had complained! I suggested that others might not have bothered to voice their concerns. The server offered an alternative, which I accepted. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when she took my used plate, picked up my dirty spoon, and used it to cut a piece of the tart. She tasted it and claimed she couldn't detect any issues! According to her, the cakes are baked the day before they're sold, and the mincemeat is bought externally (explaining why it tasted nice). She concluded by asserting they don't serve stale cakes. In reality, they did, as evidenced by the tart I received. The server's rude response compelled me to share this review; otherwise, I might not have bothered."
