"First, my main handle was the menu situation. From the site it looked like there was a choice of English or Indian, but on arrival it was said that the Indian menu was the only available. I had Lammrogan Josh, which was okay when a little Bland. I had potatoes with what was a nice touch. The chicken corma of my girlfriend was boiled over with not enough sauce (in our opinion) A free drink was offered, but went back because we wanted to get out because the room was a little cool. Total disappointing"

"Would not make the trip to come here, but should they be stuck in taunton train station they will be pleasantly surprised better than their average train station caffe. large selection of hot drinks available and some hot baked plus craps / chocolate etc. available. there are a few comfortable seats and a small book exchange rack."

"We arrived for a 5 night stay in The Smithy on 31/05/23 for a birthday getaway. We received a very warm welcome from Mandy and Stuart, owners of the pub. The cottage that Mandy showed us around was fabulous in every way, very tastefully converted, ideal for a couple. We were pleasantly surprised to find that we had been supplied fresh bread and milk, jams butter and water which after our journey was very much appreciated. We had a couple of amazing meals, all local fresh produce which was prepared by Stuart (great culinary skills). If you want a good atmosphere, good company and great food then visit this pub. I promise you will not be disappointed! We would like to thank Mandy and Stuart for being great hosts and making this birthday a memorable one. We are definitely going back, rebooking for later this year and for a repeat birthday celebration next year!"

"Just called in on Fri 8/11/19 for a meal. the landlord was very accommodating and the food was to die for. I would rate this establishment as one of the best in the area. The only drawback was they only served bottled ale (although it was good local ales). will definitely be returning."

"I visited Café Nero in Taunton this morning. About 10 am, whilst waiting to be served I noticed a milk delivery sitting on the floor at the end of the counter protruding by 7 x 4 pint containers (end on) into the customer area a trip hazard. The elderly gentleman in front of me noticed just in time to avoid falling over them. The milk delivery was still on the floor when I left. The girl serving was very pleasant trying hard but I think fairly new to the job. The only other person I saw working there was a man who appeared with his mobile, served a couple of customers left ignoring the milk on the floor. Sadly I have no choice but to give Café Nero in Taunton a 2 whereas on a good day it would rate a 4."

"Whilst looking for garden plants we stopped for a cream tea, the surrounding did the food and service justice ? A quirky little place that serves a good variety of well proportioned meals that matched the surroundings, Perfect ! the staff were attentive and yet not intrusive and the scones were top marks can't wait to return on a sunny day and sit in the sunshine enjoying some more of the delightful treats!! A little out of the way and off the beaten track place, but well worth hunting out !"
