"Overall rating: 4.5<br/ <br/ The architectural design and earthy tones of Bentwood cafe gave off such a calming atmosphere as we were welcomed by friendly staff. We were seated in a very spacious setting with a nice window view. <br/ <br/ I must say the plating is just beautiful and everything on their menu is definitely worth trying. As we waited for our brunch, we ordered some drinks.<br/ <br/ Mango smoothie was so refreshing and balanced with flavours of sweetness and tartness from the yoghurt and mango. Loved the addition of the coconut flakes, chia seeds and mint leaves! <br/ <br/ House blend coffee was nicely roasted and had a smooth taste. We also had some Chai which involved having to sift the physical herbs and spices in the chai mixture. Was fun being an alchemist for a bit and was definitely aromatic but wish it was sweeter. Maybe something went wrong given our poor cooking skills! <br/ <br/ Mango chicken salad (4.5/5): this was interesting yet divine to eat. Who knew mango and coconut dressing would go so well with savoury chicken and noodles. Chicken was a teeny bit dry. The soba noodles kept its nice integrity as it was soaked in the creamy salad dressing. The crispy salted flakes gave the dish a nice finish and a perfect balance of flavour and texture. <br/ <br/ Chilli scrambled eggs (4/5): A beautiful vibrant dish full of flavour. The tangy yet sweet cherry tomatoes was balanced by the creaminess of the egg scramble and saltiness of the bacon. Shallots are my favourite condiment and gave the dish that needed texture. Price for just a sourdough with eggs scrambled with bacon and tomatoes could be less expensive. <br/ <br/ Eggs benny (5/5): Braised beef cheek was so juicy and fatty, just melted right it in the mouth. It was seasoned perfectly, and paired well with the hollandaise sauce. The sweet potato waffles was the perfect base to create that perfect balance of flavour and texture. Its deceiving size is very filling. <br/ <br/ Food: 4.5<br/ Value: 4<br/ Ambience: 5<br/ Service: 4"

"A small, cozy, unpretentious restaurant, impeccable service with wait staff who actually knew their food and seem genuinely enthused about their job. Small menu but with unusual combinations which really worked (pasta with swordfish and an eggplant and mint puree...amazing!!). I could see the chef through the window actually looking at the customers reactions to the food and a genuine look of pleasure when he could see people really enjoying it. Good size servings which hit the spot perfectly. A little bit noisy when the restaurant filled up, but would highly recommend for either a quick bite or a dinner to impress. $150 for the 3 of us including wine and dessert...not bad for Melbourne at all."

"We ducked into Fitzroy social in between a wedding ceremony and reception at the nearby town hall. This was my first experience at the venue in the day time and it was as cool as the evening. Given we hadn’t had lunch my husband and I shared the giant parma. When cut in half these still amounted to a sizeable portion.<br/ <br/ The chips accompanying these were absolutely delicious too. Some others at the table got the regular sized parma and it wasn’t too far behind size wise. Pizzas and burgers were also enjoyed the only issue was cold cappuccinos but new ones were made upon complaint. What really wins here is the atmosphere, in fact if you are a quirky couple you should totally have your wedding here! <br/ <br/ Original review<br/ The old Little Creatures is now a breathtakingly cool space with pops of neon, elegant chandeliers, a beautiful bright wall mural and stunning ceiling suspended greenery. The place was absolutely buzzing with lively music pulsing and friendly staff. <br/ <br/ The menu is super Brunswick forget merely vegetarian it is all manner of vegan, gluten free and dairy free options. You have to order at the counter and I had significant difficulty with the man who took my order, he processed it incorrectly three times. It took about 10 minutes for me to pay which was annoying as I was absolutely starving. Sure enough the order came to the table incorrect (one of the transactions he had refunded) but we got there in the end. <br/ <br/ We had two spicy salmon salads at the table neither of which were spicy but what was frustrating was the inconsistency of plating. My partner literally had a scattering of salmon on the plate and he's 95% sure it was tinned. Maybe charge slightly more and make it substantial? Not to mention fresh. A friend faired better with her quantity of fish. <br/ <br/ I got the eye filet with cinnamon sweet potato wedges. The cinnamon was quite subtle and the wedges too oily for my liking which worked out well as I'm dieting so I only had a few and didn't even want any more. The steak was lovely and the bernaise a nice accompaniment. <br/ <br/ We had a selection of burgers at the table; kale and beef, homestyle cheeseburger and the kimchi. All well received other than the kimchi deemed average. They had mulled cider which was absolutely delicious but they ran out very early in the night.<br/ <br/ Panko crumbed cheese curds were super oily for me (I mean I know they are deep fried but I don't need to taste oil dripping out as I bite in) but the pork poutine was a hit. They do run a pretty rocking happy hour for majority of the night which is always a plus. Great atmosphere and killer set up but the food and service a bit hit and miss. Definite strong potential"
