"My husband and I were invited to an art gallery event in Marda Loop so we decided to go early for dinner just down the street at Merchants. We reviewed the menu in advance and only saw a few things that appealed to us but that's all we need anyway.Our server was a beautiful young woman who was very attentive. The atmosphere is casual and fun with some rustic and industrial touches. The kitchen is quite open so you can see the chef at work and there is an oyster station next to it. The crowd was very mixed with seniors, families, and hipsters alike. We ordered pop and boy did they deliver. We kept getting more and more refills on our table so we ended up leaving two large full glasses on the table when we left. We both ordered fish and chips and they came up quickly. We each got 2 pieces of perfectly cooked cod with a great batter but it was not especially flavourful. I did really like the tartar sauce and coleslaw. The fries were fine but nothing special. I gave half my dinner to my hubby so I could have dessert. Our server highly recommended the chocolate layer cake and we also tried the cheesecake. The oyster man prepared our desserts and I watched as he soaked my cake in chocolate syrup. I'm sorry to say that the syrup ruined the dessert so I didn't finish it. The cheesecake wasn't cake at all. It was whipped cheesecake type mousse squeezed like icing into a mason jar. The fruit was displayed separately on the plate. Now, I don't want to sound harsh but why in the world would you put cake in a mason jar? It is beyond dated and really awkward. Watching my husband try to dig out his cake from that tiny jar was ridiculous. I tried it and even though it tasted good, I couldn't be bothered to keep going. All restaurants should know by now to stop putting our food in jars! We don't live in the country and even country people don't want to go to a restaurant and eat out of jars.The bill was $80 with tax and tip. We won't be back any time soon but I do think that there is something worth working on here. I hope Merchants does the necessary improvements to the food to match the excellent service and atmosphere."

"Came here on a weeknight and this place is bustling. We grabbed a seat by the kitchen bar, and it was super cool because you get to see the pizza making process up close. The pizza chef was also engaging which made our experience super fun! The service was also really good. The pizzas tasted great although we all agreed that the shroom pizza was lacking a bit of flavour and was very plain. The cheese on the meat pizza was amazing! Our favourite was definitely the housemade arancini. One star off because the harsh music was just too loud to be enjoyable."

"We have been here twice and the burgers are pretty decent. You get a variety to choose from and you can add an extra patty if you prefer more meat. Burgers are not cheap but you get what you pay for."

"The menu choices are good and my personal favourite is the fondue (meal for two). Prices are reasonable and food is tasty. On a slower night the service is my personal favorite as the staff is quick to visit and converse if they are welcome to. The wine list is not only fair but my memorable experience was when the waiter (after listening to my description of my palate) suggested that I change my order from a reserve wine to anotherr at almost half the price and he was RIGHT. Fantastic suggestion and let's be honest, who does that? Cares more for your experience and enjoyment rather than trying to up-sell. Well done. We keep going back and taking others.."
