"This nearby dim sum place has become our go to for quality and good value. the only downside is the grumpy and condescending staff and their allowance of people to cut in front of others.There is frequently a line outside this place even in the mid-afternoon. Most people are respectful of the queue, but at times (usually lols) cut in front pretending that they are just looking but instead they were sent by their family and order ahead of everyone else. They have been chastised by those in line however they seem immune and the restaurant staff allows this type of behavior. Most of the time the staff is courteous but if you get an older woman with short hair, be on your toes. She has no patience and if you don't know exactly what you want she rushes you and is condescending and tosses your change on the metal counter.That said, the dim sum is really good."

"Decided to order from here for the first time, delivery. Food arrived on time but wasn't exactly what I had expected. Sure it was flavorful, but when I've ordered biryani from other places, it generally had more than just rice, seasoning and the protein. This calamari biryani had nothing but the seasoned rice, a few almond slivers, and sixish calamari rings. I had also ordered the mushroom mattar, but when it arrived, all I got was a container full of sauce, three-ish scoops of peas and a few blocks of very firm tofu. The calamari curry was just a handful of calamari rings in a very soupy/watery sauce. The chicken korma was similarly devoid of anything but the protein and the very soupy sauce. In fact, when I first set the three containers, the mattar, korma, and curry next to each other, all drowning in sauce, the only way I could tell the difference between them were the proteins and peas. I've never had indian food so devoid of any other ingredients before and it was definitely surprising. Although the food was okay, I probably won't be ordering from here in the future."

"I had carefully avoided that place for a long time because I found the exterior too garish. I finally tried it out. After that first time, I went again at each opportunity. The food is very simple and informal. But that's the point of what they offer.And, in its category, it's nothing short of fantastic. The prices are wonderful for central San Francisco. There arecomplications that patrons must comply with: it's cash only, you must order quickly at the front, it's all pre-heated, you mustbus your own table, etc. If that's not your things, table-service with food made to order is available next door at Mel's. Butit's three times the price at least and it's not really better. Although they have a wider selection. The interior is simple andthe tables are big and comfortable. (I can't stand places with little round tables. Fortunately, it's not too common in the US.)Overall, Tommy's is perfect for what it tries to do."

"I've eaten at a number of Chinese-American style restaurants in San Francisco and this little restaurant is my new favourite. We had meatless sesame chicken, meatless orange chicken, mixed veggies and meatless chicken and veggie crispy rolls. Some of the people in our party said that our meatless chicken was better than real chicken and very flavourful and tender. All of the sauces were a cut above usual Chinese-American fare and were very well spiced, not too oily or greasy (even though two of our items were deep fried) and everything came out crispy and just the right temperature. Lunch options include rice and a small salad side with crispy chow-mein noodles as a topping, a slice of orange garnish and parsley. The service was very polite and we didn't wait long for our meal (though it should be noted that we came at a strange time after the lunch rush) -another nice touch was that there were acrylic/sturdy chopsticks instead of the splintery disposable kind."
