"Having given up on this place twenty years ago some friends talked us into trying it again. Staff are friendly and helpful which is always a positive. The negative...Awful food. Slimy textured main courses. Horrid prawn toast. Everything lacking in flavor. Except the hot and sour soup which had some decent kick but was more like the texture of a congealed rice pudding...It is cheap which i suppose is a plus... there are so many great local options that I'm surprised they are still running. I truly couldn't recommend the place at all. The surroundings are largely irrelevant. It's the food that should be there first priority. Time to visit the competition guys to see how others are knocking it out of the park.Head to centre road if you want something significantly better"

"This was our second time having a family get together in this restaurant.The meals here are absolutely beautiful!The taste combinations are wonderful!Our table had garlic king prawns, wasabi king prawns (I ordered this and it was so delicious, creamy, fresh and light), Mongolian beef with fresh vegetables and a big portion of fried rice for all of us.We absolutely loved our meals.Although the fried rice was a bit dry.The reason I scored our experience average is because of the service. It was very disappointing. We had to wait a very long time to place our order, then for our meals to arrive, and then to be able to place our desires for some desserts...The desserts arrived with at least 10minutes apart and one of the desserts we just didn't have the patience to wait for (after 30-40min of not getting it). I was quite tired on that night and I wanted to have a small latte to be able to focus on my drive home; but apparently they were out of coffee... any kinds of coffee...I'm not too keen to visit this restaurant again if there service stays like this."

"My boys wanted to take me out for dinner for Mother’s Day and we were so very happy to learn that sittings here would be a la carte/ no set menu or minimum spend like many restaurants impose. We queued for our 5.45pm sitting later learned they’d had 3 lunch sittings that day wow the staff would have been so very busy). My boys are familiar with the menu so we ordered fairly quickly drinks our stream of delicious dumplings arrived within minutes! There was about 10 minutes in between that and mains. Service was great. Extra requests for drinks etc were handled efficiently, food was so very delicious; each of the mums received a wrapped carnation for Mother’s Day. I can’t speak highly enough of our dinner here our first time for us all as all previous visits have been at Hu Tong in the city, where we love the feel, the lane ways sense of history. This was Hu Tong in a different bustling vibrant location. We loved it. Thank you Hu Tong. Special mention too to all your floor staff who did an amazing job of looking after us all."

"I've been surviving on this place for a while..<br/>I was unemployed and money was tight and I didn't have a kitchen in my old apartment.. Great value for money..$7 rice n stir fry special or do what I use to,just get the stir fry at $12 and u can turn it into 3-4 meals if u have a ricecooker at home..<br/>I recommend the chicken or beef curry..it's Asian curry not indian..<br/>Or the schezuan chicken or beef <br/>Or chilli beef or chicken<br/>Or the beautiful Wonton soup..those r the only ones I ordered...<br/>My only negative is selling a can of drink for $2.50 when 50m away this jew $2 shop selling coke for $1 and also selling those nasty but well loved aussie dimmies for $3.50 for 2..well overpriced..<br/>Highly recommended, especially if money is tight..<br/>As a bonus 5metres away is st kilda library offering free fast wifi.."
