"I had one our senior Board Directors visiting us. We booked him in the Intercontinental Melbourne. We have used this hotel for all our international and interstate guests in the past. As we had a very busy day my Executive Assistant (EA) booked a table for 3 at the Alluvial Restaurant for an early dinner at 6pm. We arrived about 15 minutes early and had a drink in the bar. At 6 pm we arouse; I told the bartender that we had a 6pm booking at the Alluvial Restaurant. He informed it wasn't open for dinner. I rang my EA, she rang the hotel and then rang to tell me that she had been informed that it was open. She also told me that she had confirmed the booking that afternoon. I went to the front counter to be told that the restaurant was open. Another staff member came over and explained it wasn't open. By this time, I am totally confused. Anyway, it wasn't open. I asked if there was another restaurant open in the hotel otherwise, we would have to go and look for one in the city. She said she would book a table for us at Ronnies. We went there. We were great by, I think, the manager he couldn't find our booking. Finally, after telling him my story he seated us at a booth. A young waiter who was very good, he did a great job of serving us. It seems that Ronnies is Pizza and Pasta place. Not what we were looking for and expecting at a 5 star hotel. The whole evening cause me a great deal of embarrassment. My director told me that he had some problems with the lack of service during his stay. I could not be more disappointed with the Intercontinental Hotel. Do we take our business to Marriott or the Langham?? Please respond."
