"I remember when finding something healthy on the go meant you had to choke down a crappy Maccas salad or just pretend you weren’t hungry. But now, you can’t drive through a bigger Melbourne suburb and not be flooded with a choice of health-conscious cafes and restaurants. Now this is a trend I can rally around."

"Long before the Ottoman Empire, the area known as modern Turkey was the commercial hub for trade between East and West. Even today, the Spice Markets in Istanbul, would have to still be one of the best in the world. In many of the finest (as in good food) Turkish restaurants in Istanbul there is a dedication to authentic Turkish cooking and authentic (organic) ingredients. Go to Google and Trip Advisor, for reviews of Ciya Sofrasi in Kadikoy and after that make a booking at Keyf Restaurant to save yourself the airfare. I am not saying this is Melbourne's Ciya Sofrasi, but they are committed to creating authentic dishes, made on premises. Writer’s note: In their traditional restaurant, there is no menu. They create from what is available and fresh - a great and adventuresome experience. Here (Melbourne), business survival dictates more certainty, but let me say there are flavours we recognise, that take us back.Summary:-Service, Hospitality and People - Up there with the best! Very nice restuarant space, quiet day, so no comment on full house service.Food is good, really good! That means way, way, above average as you will find something different here, seeking authenticity, not just food on a plate! Take the time to savour the flavour!Drinks - a modest selection of wine, beer etc. with reasonable prices. Not sure about BYO.Value - I’d rate as very good - you wont leave hungry!Great time, Great Food, Great Service!Read on for more detail:-We had a Turkish Banquet (a promotional offer from this new restuarant) to get a sense of what Keyf is all about. After 6 weeks, recently in Turkey, our expectations were really high, because food is a big part of Turkish life and we have been spoilt over there.Service:- I can’t comment on service from a bustling restuarant point of view, (as the rain left the restuarant quiet), but for us excellent. Hospitality was wonderful and we felt more like guests than restuarant patrons. They coped really well juggling a set menu alongside an additional companion ordering a La Carte. In short, they live the hospitality we came to experience across Turkey.Food:- Food is good, really good!Dips are Dips, right? Wrong - put you taste buds on notice and taste the flavours in these very well constructed dips. Do not leave this restuarant without tasting the carrot and yoghurt dip and the eggplant which I’m sure was smoked! Delicious and simple. These aren’t off the shelf from Coles. What goes with Dips? - Bread, ah well!, other reviewers have mentioned the bread; they are right, it is really fantastic, if you love bread, that is! The other starters were very good; Calamari, very tender, Cheese in pastry, very yummy and rice in vine leaves, part of the mix.Main dishes - Kebabs tender and tasty, fish delish! and accompaniments fresh. Our other guest had a delicious traditional Turkish dish of small lamb morsels encased in a pasta with a yoghurt sauce. Really nice.Drinks:- Not sure about BYO. Wine list small but quite reasonable. Two other attractions - EFES Beer, Yum Yum and Ayran (essentially a drink made from a yoghurt base) Yum, Yum too! Presented really well at Keyf.Location: I try to avoid South Melbourne as much as I can (unless there is a restaurant that says "you must come"), but Keyf is located in Park Street around the corner from the South Melbourne Town Hall, so, not in the hub of Clarendon Street. We could have parked out the front of the restuarant, but it was a Sunday. When to go:- This place is open from 7:30am to 11:30pm (weekends) - how’s that for dedication? The breakfast menu (weekends) looks really good and gets many likes on feedback sites. The owners said lunch traffic is steady, but a great time to go if you want to enjoy the casual relaxed nature of the venue like we did. Nights can be busy, (particularly the weekend nights) - not surprising with the food! So, I’m sure a call to the restuarant itself will clarify reservation preferences. We will definitely be back to sample the other dishes at Keyf Restuarant. Well done you should be justly proud of your representation of one of the world’s simply fine cuisines. With thanks,Three very satisfied and contented dining patrons."
